Favorite John Wayne movie

So many great ones. Here's my picks, in order of preference:

The Shootist. John Wayne knew he was dying and that this was his swan song. Great acting, great supporting cast, and the parallels between the movie and real life were wrenching for both Wayne and the audience.

True Grit. Wayne was in the sunset of his life, riddled with painful and debilitating cancer (he had just lost a lung), and yet he pulled it all off convincingly, including the final scene where he jumped his horse over a fence. The man was absolutely indominatable. Who can forget his faceoff with the bad guys in the meadow. Reins in teeth, six-shooter in one hand and a '92 Winchester in the other. "Fill your hand, you ***********!" No stunt doubles for him. He definitely had "true grit" in real life.

The Searchers. Great acting. You can feel heartfelt pain in some of the scenes. Very convincing portrayal. The iconic John Wayne western movie.

Feo, fuerte, y formal. Definitely The Man. We'll never see his likes again.

I TOTALLY agree (to include the order you have placed them) and for the reasons you have written.

I would put 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance' in fouth position on my list, though.

That was Susan Hayward. Both redheads, though.
