FBI 1076

It does show indications of being an FBI 1076 but I had one very similar that was not. You can see my example in the first few posts I made in this thread to see the similarities. The only way to know for sure is a factory letter. It's in great shape either way. :) Welcome to the forum.

Thank you, glad to be here.it has night sights as well, super dim though

I think just about all of them out there don't have much glow left in the night sights. I have heard you can send them in to Novak or some place like that and get them relit but it isn't super cheap.

Have you shot it yet? They're fantastic to shoot and made me a straight shooter in one outing.

The "U" is likely a test firing mark stamped on the gun at the factory. Can't recall if this is significant or not. Where is it exactly? Can't see it in the photos. There are a number of FBI 1076's that have what looks like an upside down "1" stamped on the side of the trigger guard.

Send me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send you a copy of the letter request form that you'll send on to Mr. Roy Jinks at the S&W HQ.

Range was closed by the time I got there,Monday for sure.now to figure out who to mail a letter to ,to see if this piece is legit!!!

By the way it has a "U" stamped under the trigger guard, any significance?

U is for used. Stamped on the guns when returned to S&W before being re-sold. My FBI 1076 has the stamp under the trigger guard as well. But it is not unique to the FBI versions and can be on any police return that was re-sold.

Actually Trijicon will replace the lamps, just have to send the slide, takes 7-10 days.

well I just called this number to S&W and found out my 1076 was a Jan 1991 produced 1076 that originally went to the Virginia State Police, not the FBI, but good info all the same.
Number was 1-800-331-0852 ,I told the operator my Serial # and she gave me the info, saved $50 at least

Hey, you still got a great piece and easily my favorite semi-auto to shoot. I didn't realize you could call S&W and get that detailed info. Good to know.

Dzl, can you post a picture of the "U" under the trigger guard. Not sure there's a picture of one already in the thread and I am too lazy to search the 29 pages to look.

Some pics of my 1076's and 15 round mag

Thought the 1076's needed some time out of the safe so what better excuse then to shoot some pics. I picked up the magazine from a forum member awhile ago. It wasn't cheap but since it was the only time I had ever seen one for sale then I had to work out a deal with the seller. I sheepessly admit that I've paid less for some shooter grade guns. I have loaded it up once and shot the 15 rounds through it, it was fun. :)

These are both FBI guns. The one with the checkered front strap and trigger guard was agent carried and the one with the grooved front strap and checkered trigger guard was in the original 250 shipment that went to the Academy for testing.

Thank you sir.

$54 is reasonable. I have some guns that might need to have that done. Thanks for letting us know.

I can play now, just picked up a very nice, very reasonably priced 1076 this afternoon. Serial is TFK378X, checkered front strap and hand guard, "Caution-Capable of firing with Magazine Removed" on slide.

will post pictures shortly. possible FBI 1076? I will be requesting a letter when extra funds allow.

It's very possibly an FBI 1076. There are great number of TFK FBI 1076s. Please let me know the results when you receive the letter. Thanks, D

I would like to take time and thank dmc8163 for his help and quick response. dmc8163 I will get that information to you in a few days, Again thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.

First post, new member.

I stumbled across this thread while doing a little research on my 1076 and based on a scan of the last 29 pages I think I may have an oddity. My gun has the serial number prefix VZC and the stamping is lighter and in a slightly different script than my other 10mm S&W guns. It doesn't have a magazine disconnect, nor the recall punch marks or any of the other marks people have mentioned in this thread.

Every other gun I've seen mentioned in this thread starts with 'T', so either my gun is a very late production model or an oddball.

Any info appreciated.

Pics are always good but the likely answer is that it is simply a very late commerical model of the 1076. We haven't seen any FBI 1076's outside the T prefix range. Many commerical 1076's were used by other state law enforcement agencies and yours may have a history like that but it may simply have been a private party purchase as well. :)

Thanks for the response. I didn't realize there were any 10mm guns outside the T prefix. Somehow I have gotten the mistaken impression that the T prefix was instituted just for the 10mm production. Kentucky State Police used the 1076 for several years longer than the FBI did, but the KSP guns I've seen were all marked on the slide.

Regardless of its provenance, paying $425 for this really sharp 1076 has been my gunshow high point for the year.

1076 FBI GUN?

I have a 1076 I picked up last week at a gun store and I think it may be a FBI gun. It has the following features: palm swell grips, checkered front strap, black trigger, novak night sights, the letter u on the trigger guard, magazine warning on right side of slide and a serial number prefix that is TVK xxxx. Also the original box has a new label over the original label indicating "used" and various other numbers. Does all this sound correct? Would pictures help?

Mark

Pics are always good. If you search through this thread you will see a picture of a box that I have posted pics of that came with a lettered FBI 1076.

There is record of two TVK FBI 1076s. One also features a black trigger which is not a common feature. The ship dates were 6/91 and 10/91. So it is possible.

Just got confirmation from Smith&Wesson that my gun is indeed a FBI gun. The gun was shipped to the FBI in 91.

Congrats on a acquiring a great gun with a cool history. You'll have to post some pics of the gun and box, naturally. I need to find out that number that people call to get that info so quick. It may come in handy.

I called 1-800-331-0852, hit number 7 and after about a 10 minute wait a girl answered and I had all the info I needed in about a 2 minute conversation.

Here we go. The first five pics. Then next post will show four more.

Bluebell, That one looks great. The black trigger and grey hammer is interesting. We'll have to see what dmc thinks about that. You'll be even happier once you shoot it, if you haven't already.

TFP335X is right in the FBI issued SN range. With the features you listed there is a good chance it is on. Of course the only way to know for sure is to get a letter, but it looks like the letter would be worth the money for your particular pistol.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread again, but I finally got around to calling S&W today, and it turns out that my 1076 IS an FBI (Quantico) issued gun!

I reloaded a couple of hundred 10mm rounds and took it to the range last weekend, for the first time in years. Great shooter.

Now I'm thinking about keeping it. :D
