This is exactly what I did in the past for my P7 M13. Most cost effective route too especially if you want to keep your original sight housings.

I just picked up a 1076 TFE5644, shot it, qualified with it of an off duty gun. She flew through 100 rounds without a hiccup. I love the smooth double action. It reminds me of my old issue 686 4 inch I was issued at my first PD. This thread has been a boon of information!!!

I know this thread is almost dead, but I'd be willing to bet your 1076 is an LEO gun. I've had two different TFE prefix 1076s and both were Police guns.
BTW I ended up selling my Chesterfield PD gun, but only because I found my long awaited VSP gun. My VSP 1076 is TFE0619. My CPD 1076 was TFE1699.

Hard to tell without a letter.Box if present will be marked USED GUN and may have a secondary label FBI Academy.FBI gun had Nite Sights but so did LE contract guns.Bottom of trigger guard may have a very small U for used gun.1076`s seem to be pretty strong lately bringing close to a 1000.00 on the auction sites.Good Luck.
Since it has the caution statement it was most likely a LE gun, not necessarily an FBI.. Other agencies also purchased the 1076 VSP used 1026's mostly but did issue some 1076's.

As stated above, I already have a VSP 1076 with TFE prefix. This gun is identical except no U and no upside down T. It's also in perfect condition no box.

I have been able to acquire 2 of the 5183 NIP holsters and have since let them go. I have recently got my hands on this set in which the seller has indicated FBI issue. I hope all is well.OK, I'll need to set the record straight..... Old age and memory isn't what it used to be, and I didn't dig far enough into my holster box.
When I posted about the 5181, something wasn't right about it (I had pulled it out of my holster box) as the area covering the end of the barrel just had more material (from the muzzle back) than I remembered. So, after looking at the pic in that gallery, I climbed back up in my storage and pulled the box out, dug deeper, and lo-and-behold found my 5183, also marked for the 1076, this one is the one I was talking about when I had researched it. I looked all over and found it at a Police supply house in Salt Lake City (they only had one), and bought it. I liked it a lot due to the "less material" and almost competition like coverage at the end of the slide (less is more).
I'll need to take a pic and post of the two, the 5183 is the one I now remember as being the correct one, but who knows, there were probably many in use due to supplier production/stocking issues (?)
The material is less in all areas, less at the muzzle, no hammer/thumb break, and the two sides up at the top are lower than the 5181, very competition like, i.e., IPSC Race gun style.

Thanks for posting that! I remember that manual when we were issuing the guns to Agents in 1992. It was fun browsing that again. A lot of what is in there is quaint by current standards: weaver stance, prepping the trigger, gradual trigger reset. All of that was rejected and replaced around 1996.
Certainly a time capsule!

Really appreciate the instruction manual. Gave it a quick scan and encountered the "Trigger prepping " instruction. This made me dig out my FBI Model (TFK 3773) and a 1066 for comparison. In double action the 1076 has 1/2 inch of very light take up and then firm smooth resistance. Where as the the 1066 has no take up at all. Just long firm double action pull. Sorry I do not own a trigger scale. No apologies for reviving this old thread, some great info here that is quite helpful. Cheers!
Trying to track 2 1076 and found this old and very helpful thread. Tried to contact dmc8163 to check s/n against FBI list but no response and it appears his last activity was mid 2022. Wondering if anyone else can tell me if TFK5879 and/or TET5756 is an FBI pistol.
