I have my brother"s 10 mm 1076 that he tested for the the FBI, He was a firearms instructor at Quantico for the FBI in the 90s. He like many where able to buy their guns when they handed them back in. I also got the letter from S&W to confirm this. I am selling it and some others to thin my collection down some. Any idea what they are worth? I have seen them sell for $1800 and up, just not sure what the up is.

thanks

With the personal story and letter to back it up, it may very well be worth near to the price you quoted. However, if you have any inkling that you might miss it in the future (or if your brother has a say in the matter), perhaps selling some other guns first that didn't belong to a family member may be advisable.

I have owned the gun since the early 90's , paid for a long time ago. Not going to miss it, I just keep it in the safe because of the back story. Not making it a shooter because of what is is worth. Also I have a few boxes of agency issued ammo from back in the day. Though it is a great carry gun and shooter. I smile every time I have shot it. Thanks for the info

I just don't see that kind of money here, but I have been wrong before. Gunbroker is a really good venue for things of this nature. Put it up for a 7-day auction and either don't set any reserve or tell potential buyers WHAT the reserve is set at, and you will find out in one week's time if that is an $1,800+ handgun.

Special guns, low production guns and guns with true provenance such as the letter from S&W do not get "lost" or missed on Gunbroker -- they tend to bring prices that I would not likely ever see at the gun shows I visit.

Thanks for the info, I would never sell it cheap, I will make it a carry gun in the woods before I gave it away, and yes I have seen some crazy prices paid for some things on there.

Do you have the original box for your 1076? If so, $1800 would not be out of the scope of reality. If you just have the gun it's a bit high. That said, the FBI provenance (your brother) may make up the difference. Good luck with your decision. I have two 1076 FBI....I've considered selling 1....I just can't do it :D

Steve from one Fireman to another Don't Do It! Money isn't everything, hold on tight to that prized possession that used to be your brothers!

No box, not sure if it even came in s S&W box since it was used. You are right shadow I am thinking king about taking it out shooting now instead of selling it.

My 2 FBIs.....note the "used" label. This was standard with the FBI and other LE buy back guns.

More importantly....GREAT decision to keep your brothers 1076. Shoot it....enjoy it. They are a blast .....no pun intended. Thanks for sharing your story.
