If not, please go to the FBI site, then click on "Weapons" then on Table "20". This will provide a breakdown for 2011 of murders in each state, according to weapon(s) used. The totals demonstrate the gross misrepresentation that antis routinely make in asserting the inherent dangers of handguns, "assault weapons", etc. The aggregate totals are quite small when based against population #s, especially in larger states. I hope that Table 20 is helpful in countering the attacks against our collective 2A beliefs and interest in firearms ownership and usage.

Interesting, the FBI stats show that 323 out of 12264 murders were committed with a rifle, fewer than any other category...

Thanks.
Do you think any one besides us will read it?

No, because these facts are not consistent with the "facts" that the other side uses to further its agenda. However, I have presented Table 20 to several antis that I know who have criticized me and my beliefs. As expected, they have no answer.

Hmm, interesting statistics, since there are 101 murders in republic of California with hands/fists/feet/etc should California ban usage of hands and feet ? Just shackle those newborns, change shackles as baby grows - problem solved.

A little more perspective. Mexico has a homicide by firearms rate of 22.7 per 100,000 population vs 3.2 per 100,000 population in the U.S., seven times! Put another way, there were 9,960 gun homicides in the U.S. in 2011 (mostly suicides), while Mexico had 26,757 gun homicides. Of course, the vast majority of these were committed by criminal drug cartels that don't obey the law.

Mexico's gun laws are much more stringent than the U.S. Mexico once had a "right to bear arms" in its Constitution but that has been watered down several times. Now, in Mexico, for example, strict caliber limits are in place and anyone owning more than two firearms "must justify the need." There are severe restrictions on rifles as well.

A large footnote: It's not known how many weapons that the Obama's "fast and furious" program allowing weapons to flow into Mexico were used to commit murders. At least one -- a U.S. border agent -- was the victim of one of those "exported" guns, for which the Obama administration has yet to be held accountable.

Another one of these firearms was reported today as having been found at the scene where that Mexican beauty queen was recently gunned down.

I wonder if this outrage will get the coverage it deserves.

according to chart 20, california residents need to relax a little..i guess not so many "...gentle people wearing flowers in their hair.." anymore?

Gentlemen.. Please remember that "fact and opinion" have little or nothing in common

I read an article a little while ago that said 37 children died and more than 23,000 were taken to emergency rooms because of TVs falling on them last year. Can we ban TVs?

Re: comparison of murder rates in MX (up) to US trends(down)

Murder rate in Mexico and Honduras are bound to be skewed as a virtual war exists in some areas of those nations. A war being fought amidst a citizenry who were disarmed by poverty and government regulation. The murder rate in Texas is also affected by this warfare. (if organized crime turf war is considered warfare) IMHO

Just throwing this out there, the states with the strictest gun control seem to have the highest murder rates using guns. To me this clearly shows that the bad guys (shockingly) still have guns in clear violation of state law.

Thanks.

No - - - but we need to beat the antis where we have the advantage and that is face-to-face with our friends & family. IMO we need to be aware of and respect the emotions involved, and then gently steer the conversation with facts.
I can get 'very passionate' when discussing the 2nd Amendment. I have to watch myself when it comes to bombarding people with rapid facts & figures. For me, a better script might be something like:

(After listening respectfully to them)

"I can understand how you feel about this. This was a terrible act, and its very sad for the victims and their families.
Unfortunately, in the heat of the moment people can react emotionally in ways that are actually harmful and do nothing to solve the problem . . . "

then you can mention the FBI information and also that fact that in many of these shootings the killer was under psychiatric care and taking psychiatic medications which can increase the possibility for suicidal and violent behavior. "That's where the emphasis needs to be placed."

The antis are doing a full attack on the 2nd Amendment from multi angles. We need to do the same, and not let them get away with their most outrageous statements. We need to keep repeating the actual facts as much as possible.
