Not sure if this is the correct forum for my question but it is as close as I can find. Is it a fact that if you buy 2 or more handguns (that is all I am concerned with here) within a five (5) day period that you have to fill out a Federal form to that effect? If true, is it five days or ten days, I have heard both? And who fills out the form, the buyer or the FFL holder involved in the transaction?

It only applies if you buy/take possession of two or more handguns from the same dealer in the same 5 business day period. The dealer fills out the form and a copy goes to BATFE, a copy goes to the local LE agency for your area, and a copy stays with the dealer and the 4473(s).

If you buy two handguns from two different FFLs in that same time period this "rule" does not apply. I've bought multiple handguns from different dealers at a show in a day and the only paperwork was a 4473 (and NICS check) for each purchase.

early this summer I bought 3 guns from 3 different gun shops, one shop was in a different county. I must be a big blip on someone's radar.

If they were three different handguns or manufacturers or maybe three different calibers, the Feds could care less. They chalk you up as a "collector". What they are looking for is three of the same model, like say 9mm Uzi's or Glock Model 19s. Why would YOU need three of the same gun for your own use unless you were buying at least two for someone else (aka straw purchase) or maybe arming a small group/gang? That's what they are concerned about. So says my LGS guy.

I don't worry about it. I suspect I am already in every Galatic, UN, NSA, Federal, State,etc. data base there is. For instance, several years ago, I'd ordered, and prepaid for, two rather expensive guns from unrelated companies, located in widely separated parts of the country. It was supposed to take a few months for both to actually ship, and did. What's the chance they would both show up at the local shop on the same day? Well, they did. Did I leave one at the shop to avoid the dealer submitting the multiple sale form? NOPE.
There do seem to be a lot of black helicopters around my house though ;-)

Doesn't matter if they were three of exactly the same handgun if they were purchased the same day at different shops, there is no reporting requirement for that, only for a multiple handgun purchase the same day from the same FFL.

Best description yet!! The form still gets filled out by the FFL.. but as Dick sez unless it is 10 Glock 19's the ATF don't care..
And even if you did buy 2 or more Glocks:eek: What happens is they would MIGHT ask you to account for them.. ( Gift to wife.. Son.. Daughter.. )
