1. Accuracy? Excellent -- In my Colt, Springfield, Argie surplus, Detonics and Wilson 1911's.

VG in my Glock 21's & 30 and AMT hard baller.

Excellent in my Sig P220 and CZ 97.

Fair in my Star PD and 1917 revolvers.

2. Expansion? Excellent in both meat and water tests, I was getting .75/.80+ expansion.

I have used this load since the mid 80's and am very happy with it.

I have killed small game, deer and a rabid fox and dog, and it was like dropping a safe on there heads.

I tried it in my Springfield 1911 Loaded and while it was pretty consistent for accuracy, I did get about a 5% failure rate, mostly all feeding issues.

The bullet profile is not as round as the .45ACP FMJ hardball and that was most likely the reason for the FTF's. I have tried about 350 rounds of Remington Golden Saber in 230gr JHP in my 1911 and with that ammo, there was not one failure or any kind. Same with the GS 185gr +P ammo.

If you intend on using the HydraShok as a defensive ammo, I would recommend that you shoot at least 200 rounds if not 300 to insure consistency.

There are a couple of generations of this round. The original was more of a truncated cone design and was known to have feed issues in some guns. The current generation is shaped more like a hollow point round ball. It seems to work well for most people. It is/was popular with law enforcement and had a good reputation. Most law enforcement agencies have gone to the HST version.

For hunting, plinking, and defense in the mountains, the HydaShok is fine. For self-preservation inside the home or for CCW, there are far better options to consider, such as its modern replacement listed below:

Federal HST: LE Only
** 230-gr. +P HST HP (P45HST1): +P Outperforms Standard Pressure Version
* 230-gr. HST HP (P45HST2): Standard Pressure is Still OK, but +P is Preferred
