Just picked up a box from Wallyworld for $24.00.....left 2 boxes for others.

Question is would this be suitable for SD/HD? I guess my main concern is over penetration with this load.

For woods carry, I think it's probably an ideal load....JMHO.

Thanks.

I have shot that load, and found it to be accurate in a few different revolver.
It would not be my first choice for self defense.
Lately, I have been shooting Blazer 357 mag, in both brass case, and aluminum.
The aluminum case seems to make a good low cost SD load...158gn JHP at a claimed 1150fps...shoots great, too. The brass case load is noticeably hotter.

Nothing WRONG with jacketed soft point loads for defense, but hollow points are USUALLY better. If you shoot it well, it will be a wash. I would do like you mentioned: put the JSPs in there for bumming around the woods, and JHPs for social occasions.
I carry 158 grain Nosler JHPs from Double Tap in my 19s, and 125 grain nosebleed rounds from Buffalo Bore in my 27 for defense.
In the woods, like you, I use a 158 grain JSP in most revolvers.
