Received my next lot of the Fed 38G from TargetSportsUSA.com. They all have roll crimps like the last buy (same lot). TargetSportsUSA has told me that they advised Federal of prior lots not having crimps and customers were complaining of bullets creeping forward when subject prior firings.

Looks like Federal corrected the problem.

I have also shot four of the 38G rounds in my S&W 442 Airweight and checked the fifth round...there was no discernible creep. Good to go.

Having the equipment to fix factory ammo that left out a crimp
on its final stages, is a nice thing.........

but it would be even better if the companies "Quality Control"
would have been awake and pulled the plug on that lot of ammo.

Yes, we should all check out our ammo used for SD, before it is used for correct loading procedures and go even further to see
IF it will function in the weapon ....
be in the correct area of fps/energy
go BANG each time out of 50 rounds.

It is bad enough to pay top prices for SD ammo and have to TEST a box to make sure that it will pass, before hoping the next box might be as good.......................

Hang in there.

The Federal ammo I bought was from a bulk online site. I have a feeling the lack of a crimp is one of the reasons it was for sale there.

No big deal, I will just reset the crimp myself.

If you have a chance bench rest 10 each of crimped and no crimp if you have time and give a report. I feel when you crimp them they will be more accurate.

I have no doubt you are correct.

I will try to set some aside to test. I recently opened a 50 round box of Remington so it will be a while until I dig into the SD ammo stash for more.

I carried No.38G a lot at work and trusted it. I don't recall any crimp or bullet creep issues. Hope that was a rare QC error.

I fired it in J-frame guns as well as K frame .38 and .357 guns and Rugers.

But they were all steel guns, not light alloy.

The load was quite accurate and has a good street record. I read about one Dallas cop who terminated six felons with it from his issued M-64. No problems.
