Stopped in one of the local Wal-Mart's this morning (we have 4 in the area) for other items and picked up a box of Federal Auto match 22lr 325 count for $18. Had about 10 boxes on shelf. Limit 2 but just got one. No other ammo. Got a box about 3 weeks ago at another one. That store had limit of 1. Seems the Federal is what stores in our region are getting.

2 WMs in my area have been getting some ammo in last 3 weeks, usually bulk Federal and Winchester 333. Some rifle and shotgun ammo also. Limit is 3 boxes at both stores.

Always wondered why the bulk pack boxes have the odd quantities.
Must me some sort of sneaky marketing thing that makes it harder to figure the cost per round in your head
I know almost everybody has smart phones with a calculator now, but it is still just something else you have to do that takes time.

Annoying.

Our local Wall-Mart also had Federal 325 packs in stock. Limit 3 @ $18.96. Since they had several boxes I purchased my limit. First time in months they had any.

Good to hear. The Walmart in Rutland, VT has been bare. The Dicks has been getting ammo.

Our Dick's is totally out of the firearms / hunting / ammo business. About the only thing I buy there is golf balls or folding camp chairs.

Finally, a post with a normal price for bulk .22's. EVEN I would pay $18 (to maybe $19) for a box of Fed. Auto Match..... I would prefer $15 though :-)

THANKS for the good news.

The closest Dick's is 40 miles from me; might as well be 400 as I wouldn't put another penny in their FrontRunning, P/C pockets!

I've been getting ammo from my favorite FFL, he's been able to acquire some 38 & .357 reloads from a Maine (local) company. Still pricey, but my rationale is that if I am fattening anyone's pockets, it's gonna start 'at home'.........

Automatch has the narrow diameter brass case for your vintage Smith and Colt 22lr revolvers!

That's a decent price if you like that ammo.
I don't like Walmart, just too depressing a place.
But, I won't even go near (ironically-named) Dick's.

If a particular WM has it on the shelf at the particular moment you are standing in front of the ammo case , it will be at essentially pre panic pricing .

But shipments are random , sporadic, unpredictable , and quickly sell out .

In * normal distribution channels * , .22lr availability and wholesale pricing is volitile . My regular hangout LGS has a personal philosophy that during the panic , he charged his usual markups , in dollars , Not percentage .

As of this week , Mini Mag in good supply @ $15/ 100 , mid line bricks $ 50-60 range . Right now all the distributors have lots of the Blazer 200rd " milk carton " packs , but CCI's pricing on them is whack , running significantly higher cost per round than the 100rd Mini Mags .

Could you expand on this statement please? Are you saying that they are made to minimum specs to feed and eject more easily?

PS to last; I have used Fed Auto Match for at least 10 years now, but had never seen any reference to them being undersized. I have read a lot about their being a bit hotter to reliably function semi auto rifles for some of the specialty games where they are used. I use them interchangeably with Standard Velocity ammo in my S&Ws (including my HFT) as well as my High Standard target guns and my low wall Winchester. They are definitely my go to ammo these days!

There is a Field & Stream and a Dick's sitting on the old footprint of Sears in the Viewmont Mall in Scranton. They are a pass through set-up, you can go freely from one store to another. F&S has the guns, Dick's has the golf clubs.

I don't patronize either. I give the business to the LGS's .
