Just curious how this SHOULD work. My opinion is that feedback should be left by the seller on the item first. The seller, after all, gets paid first. After getting their money, I thought, that would be the time to leave feedback on the buyers part of the transaction. Later, after the buyer recieves the item, he should leave feedback on the sellers transaction.

I have noticed lately that most sellers don't leave feedback for the buyer until they see what the buyer says about them. Just ranting, but how do you all feel?

My opinion is worth precisely what you paid for it...

I don't leave feedback of ANY kind until the transaction is DONE. Buyer has his item, seller has his money, and if there is any discrepancy in expectations, it's been discussed and worked out if at all possible.

I also don't ask for feedback; I do try to leave it for all my purchases. If someone wants to leave it for me, it's appreciated, but I don't expect it. We're all adults here... I'd like to believe we can all transact business as such!

When I first started selling on ebay 10 years ago, I would leave feedback as soon as I was paid. On one transaction I shipped the same day I received payment and the buyer complained about slow shipping. There were several other similar examples, but I soon decided there was a need to let the buyer leave feedback first so I can have some recourse if I am unfairly slammed. When I buy on auctions or forums I leave feedback as soon as I receive the item (whether the seller has left any or not).

I used to leave feedback on nearly everyone that I sold something to,or bought something from for that matter. Very seldom has the buyer,or seller as the case may be, reciprocated. I suppose that since this is not an auction site,they feel it is unwarranted. Since I've never had a complaint either way,that is sufficient!

The buyer should leave feedback first, it’s a way to let the seller know that they’re happy with the product and the deal is complete. When I receive payment, I notify the buyer and let them know the product is shipping (I try to do it same day). I tell them that if they’re happy with the item, please leave feedback and I’ll leave positive feedback once I know they‘re satisfied. I also tell them if there are any problems, please contact me. I’ve never had a problem with an item sold, but not everyone leaves feedback. Oh well. Sometimes it takes them a week or more to pay (which I don’t understand now that paypal and the related fees are crammed down my throat), but even they will get positive feedback if they follow thru with the deal and leave feedback first.

If you pay promptly, you’re a good buyer. There isn’t a lot to it and I could care less what your feedback looks like. When buying, I look at the sellers feedback to see what type of person I’m considering dealing with. If it‘s not at least 99.9%, I read the feedback comments to see what went wrong. Buyers need to properly identify, grade and photograph the item, adequately package and promptly ship it… and deal with any issues the buyer might have. Feedback is much more important and relevant to the sellers and requiring buyer feedback first is a way to keep them honest.

from a selling stand point ... feedback upon payment alone isnt a good idea.
I do not know exactly what will happen on its way to the buyer, and the buyer also still holds a few snake oil cards till he reports and thus admits receiving the goods.
its real easy for a buyer to pitch a fit and say he didnt get anything and then you send him another just to shut him up. Buyers stay honest if you hold that one final card, and sellers ultimately lie in the beds theyve made.

I don't sell much but this is what I "try" to do. (Being kind of an internet dummy, I have been known to forget this little niceity of electronic transactions. That's unintentional.)

As to whether one or the other party should go first, I am indifferent. If the deal is done and both parties are satisfied - or better yet, happy - it's immaterial.

I generally agree with you, but I can see how some sellers get "burned" by leaving positive feedback, and then unfairly getting negative feedback from some ignorant buyer who just can't be satisfied, even though the seller did everything quickly and above-board.

I will agree that the buyer should leave feedback ASAP. The seller should leave feedback ASAP if the buyer leaves it first. Like was said before if the buyer leaves feedback then it shows that the transaction was completed and any problems cleared up. Then the seller should leave it. Common courtsey and common sense. I have bought more than I have sold on ebay. This is the way that I feel about sellers and buyers.

I need to pay more attention. I did not realize there was a feedback section in this forum. My example was from ebay transactions. Here we are like family. But on ebay, feedback is very important. IMHO
