A slow day at the lounge got me thinking (and NOT wanting to re-visit one of the Lazarus threads  )...

well, I have to admit that yes, I do feel a certain twinge to acquire some of the late great John Moses Browning's inventions....

Here as of late, I have been looking into some classic 1911 pattern guns (yes, the S&W too).

I found a while back that I shot more accurately with my Colt Commander than just about anything else that I own (other than my DGCNM 10mm)....and I began thinking about the 1911's of the world.

My family has a long history with the Colt 1911...My great grandfather (dad's mother's father) was a local pistol champ in the 50's, and my grandfather (dad's dad) carried one in his briefcase or ditty bag everywhere that he went. My dad still has his surplus WWII that he has carried around over the years....this gets me to thinking that I may have some genetically inspired JMB jonesing in the blood....

When I met my wife, she was all about the HK USP 40 Compact....well, right after we got married, after she shot my Sig p229 in 357 Sig, she was converted and she had not mentioned any other brand for a few years...btw I did not get the p229 back until recent days.

fast forward to a few months ago....I let her shoot my Colt Enhanced Commander (right after I had it Bobtailed) and she just had to have one for herself...otherwise, she would have appropriated mine ;)

....so I bought her one to match mine (without the bob job - yet) .....a few weeks later, I let her shoot my DGCNM 10mm...that was a bad idea, now she wants to glom onto it...

I frequently carry my Colt Commander, but when I just can't make it work, I carry my 340sc or 640-1. I know that they can co-exist, and that I can transition between them for SD purposes....and that they all will do their job if I do mine.

But....I have this feeling that I just need a Colt Commercial from somewhere between WWI and WWII.

Now, I absolutely love my N frame Smiths....but, I keep feeling the pull towards another 1911.....is it just me jonesing for a little JMB love, or do I have ADD?

....feel free to share the JMB love or other cures for 1911 ADD :D

Well he did invent other guns and ammo also. How about a nice little 32 Auto:D

Come to think of it....My mother's father had a Colt 1903 pocket hammer-less in 32 ACP....I remember seeing it when I was young...it was bright nickle with pearl grips....he took it off of a murderer that he caught when he was chief of Police somewhere...I don't really remember where....When he passed, his wife tried to give it to my uncle (who declined because he did not want a murder weapon)....If I had know that it was up for grabs, I would have been all over it. I know that my grandfather carried it for years in a Safariland suede IWB holster with a chrome clip....I think that some other relative (by marriage) scooped it up.

Also, I know that my father's mother had a Colt 1908 vest pocket 25 ACP that she carried while she was a probation officer and beyond...my sister got that one handed down to her.

I'm not quite sure what you're after but if ya need a jolt of John Moses' finest, jolts don't come much bigger than this..
No that's not me & I never got to fire one but we did have mounts on my patrol boat for a couple....

Go big or go home!:D

I had almost forgotten that he made the big 'uns too :D

I was thinking more of the classic 1911's and 1911a1's that graced America through the 70's....how about some of those? Maybe some real nice commercial models?

I think John's ideas had something to do with these too! :) A bit pricey I'd assume...

I will say that they do sound COOL at 6000, 20 MM, rounds per minute! ;)

reminds me of one of the stories told in the CCW class I took for some reason.
old guy in the class asked if he could qualify with his ols sidearm he carried in Korea I believe .... instructor checked the piece and said ok .... "Got a box of ammo for it too, is that ok?" ... old military crate of 45 SMG stuff to include tracers and probably other special collection fun stuff from the era .... "Ummmmm nope< lets just get you something a little newer "

Now that's what I'm talking about....I bet he could have toted around a Thompson as well, but I guess that Korea era guys had more M-1 carbines than anything else....I bet that the ammo was just fine too ;)

Rags,

That picture could kick off a whole thread about Zombies, rabid bears, or killer raccoons ;)

I wonder how it would work on coyotes? nothin' but fur and grease spot remaining?

I think it says something that after all these years nobody has come up with a heavy machine gun good enough to replace Ma Deuce.

And there are plenty who will argue that the 1911 was not replaced with a "better" service pistol.

You got one of them sticky fingered wives too, huh?

I am like a lot of guys, I hesitate to show Itchy any of my newest acquistions, rather than chewin' me out for buyin' another one, she gloms onto them and all I get to do is clean them...

Chip,

I think her addiction is getting worse.....she went to the local gun shop to pick up my Xmas gift and she came home with a brand new Sig (that was 3 times the cost of my new Marlin).

...but hey, at least she has good taste (in guns at least...) ;)
