Just had it done a month ago and I still haven't recovered.

Occasionally well meaning friends and occasional MD bring up PSA tests . a l ways ask have the combined false positives plus false negatives dropped to less than 50% yet .

My urologist retired, at our last session I asked him to recommend a replacement. He gave me a name of a lady doctor.
When I met with her for my annual exam we chatted a bit and went over my history. I did mention to her a female urologist was a new concept for me.
She smiled and told me to look at the bright side, when she did the prostate exam her fingers are smaller then her predecessor’s.

You can always take additional tests, and/or have a biopsy. The latter is no fun, but it beats dyin'.

(Speaking as one who almost did.)

I feel tired and run down AFTER a prostate exam.

I understand that Medicare does not pay for PSA blood tests. Seems that they consider that prostate issues are so slow that you are likely to die of something else. And you will be happier not knowing.
Back in 2017 I had my annual check up and the PSA test came back high. I needed to see a urologist. He did the finger test again and decided I needed a biopsy. Well I went in a couple of days later and had it done. They told me there would be some blood in the urine. Scared the heck out of me. For about three days all I whizzed was blood. I was told that the test results would take a week. Worst week of my life. The results came back negative. The PSA is still a little high. Now I still get the test every six months. I think it's a pretty good money maker. But then there is the alternative.

They check my PSA level when doing a blood test.

It's always been 1.

Every time I have "the exam" done, I feel like one of those old sock puppets we had as kids.
