For a .357 mag. mid range load, I use 7.5 grs. of Unique and 158 gr. Win. bulk JHP's . They are an accurate, controllable, clean & easy extracting load. While certainly not a max or hot load, they let you know you aren't shooting .38's. I was just curious if any of you use Unique with your 158 gr. Jacketed bullet .357 mag loads, what dose, and what sort of velocity you get and from what length bbls. Thanks

I made some loads with just a bit less powder.
They shot quite well from myfour-inch M28 and my 2.5 inch M66.
Never chronographed them, however.

7.3 Gr. Unique with a CCI Magnum SP primer and bulk Win 158 gr. JHP produced an avg velocity of 959 fps in a M19 with 2 1/2" barrel. 6.9 gr. Unique, CCI Mag primer and Hornady XTP 158 gr. JHP clocked a 967 fps average out of the same gun. That same 6.9 gr. load out of a 20" Rossi Lever Action Rifle produced a 1311 fps average.

7.2 and bulk Remmie 158's are my favorite load for hunting bowling pins with my 6'' 686 and 20'' Rossi lever. Accurate, relatively inexpensive and pleasant to shoot. Same is true for my .44 plinkers @ 10.5 under a 240 bulk Nosler or Remmie.

Actually I have worked up a series of test loads with Unique and 158 grain Hornady XTP's. I haven't gotten around to shooting them yet though.

Almost the same but have a slightly lower powder charge of 7 gr, Unique and the 158..very managable and accurate in all of my 357's..
