I remember when I was younger (the fifties) and one of my Aunts was going to get an operation. I would ask 'what is she getting an operation for? I would be told to hush and told in a low tone ''Female'', and that was the end of the conversation. Boom, right there! Well, nowadays there is no telling what you will hear, and/or see on TV. When I was a kid, the Sears catalog was the closest thing I ever got to Porno. Am I the only one who is just a little overwhelmed by the ''Information Age?''

Well some of the commercials they give you, mostly in the dinner hour can gag a maggot.:mad:

A good friend of mine, an avid duck and goose hunter, raised Labrador retrievers for hunting and field trials. His house was amply decorated with wildlife prints, dog pictures, duck calls, and usually had a few canvas retrieving bumpers scattered around the front room.

One day, his wife went in for an operation. I happened to see my friend's seven-year-old boy at church the next Sunday and asked him what kind of operation his mom had.

He very nonchalantly replied, "She got spayed.":D

I guess it just depends on how we're raised.:)

Heard on the radio as the truth: Preacher was asking some young kids preparing for a Christmas Play what they knew about the Resurrection? A young boy quickly chimed in:"all I know is if lasts longer than four hours, you need to go to the hospital!"
 
I am amazed at all the commercials.............

the pill is out.

Now it is all about, injections !!

and God help you if you can figure out what the heck the medicine is for.
They just don't come right out and say what it cures...........
just that it might make it "Milder", less likely, less often........... not cured.

I guess you didnt go to the same barber shop I went to as a kid in the 50's, I couldn't wait to get a haircut.

I thought I was a somewhat savvy kid......

When in hushed tones ladies would talk about a pending operation and you heard one whisper, "It's her bladder" and the other would give a low "oohhhhh", I knew what they were talking about. When people were killed 'cleaning their guns', it only took a few years for me to figure out that they really meant, "He ATE his gun". I figured when my Grandmother told me about my Grandfathers death by cancer in his 'bladder', I translated it into 'prostate', but nobody mentioned that back then. Most EVERYBODY has a 'bladder'.

After years of learning a scant amount of 'what was out there" by hook or crook along comes the internet. I'm 63 and learned much more than I wanted to know since the internet was made popular.

The proliferation of digital recording devices hits the "Stupid" button in many people's psyches.

Porn ? A few years ago I saw some copies of "Adult Video News", the trade publication of the porn industry. In one issue out of all the women pictured I saw 3, maybe 4 who were worth a second look, the rest-YUKK!
 
I still remember being told the following when I asked what my paternal Grandmother died of.. (someone who I had never met)
'She died of complications of being a woman',,,and don't ask anymore questions.

and they wonder why some people grow up a little bit goofy with guidance like that.
 
I've said this before regarding the side effects of certain meds. Heart problems,stroke, and my favorite one death. And my pharmacy calls and tells me a certain med is available for pickup. They say the name and it's nothing like I'm taking. So now I tell them what is the generic name. You don't see the trojan ads anymore. Frank
 
Just remember that all of those "medications" which are pushed by the pharmaceutical companies and taken by so many people, all have eventually leave the body. Is there any wonder why colon, liver and kidney problems are so common today?
 
Being retired, I'm able to watch a lot, (probably too much), daytime TV. Besides the latest & greatest medicines, I'm deluged with commercials beating the drum for anti-aging creams, "I've fallen and can't get up" buttons, hair restorers, senior life insurance, and any number of ambulance chasing law firms. Small wonder Netflix is so popular, not to mention the on-off switch.

I find myself timing how long the commercials are on a TV show. Most take up at least 10 minutes of a half hour show. If it is a highly rated/watched show it takes up more than 10 minutes.

HMMM Do I want to die from an illness I have or the 10 deadly side effects of the drugs they tell me to take? Doc says those side effects only happen to maybe 1 in a 1000 people that take the drug. HMMM How many hundreds of thousands take that drug? I am beginning to think I am the final safety testing analysis for drugs the FDA already approved.

I am now seeing more and more commercials about law firms wanting to know if I or someone that died have had dangerous side effects from some FDA approved drug or medicinal apparatus or operation. I am getting scared of going to the doctor just from watching commercials.
 
Try watching some of the 'young' people's stations. The commercials are outrageous and some show behavior that was actually illegal a few years ago. Even mainstream TV censors God but says damn. That confuses me, makes me wonder when they will blank out mother and say @#$%&. In this age of Political Correctness, all kinds of questionable behavior is 'OK' and I am offended often.

George Carlin would probably roll over in his grave to learn that his "Seven words you can't say on television" routine would be a conservative guide to broadcasting. To me it's still a pretty good guide to keeping myself out of trouble and embarrassment, even off the air.
 
No TV at home in 22 years, don't even like to watch it when I go out. It's like the telescreens in "1984".
My mother's family were Christian Scientists, health problems, operations, etc . weren't talked about. I thank them for that.
 
LOL Side effect sudden death. You mean I don't even have time to call my doctor to inform him that I am that 1 in a 1000?

I read that back during the flu epidemic that killed so many that most amount of people that died actually died from mega dosing on aspirin for controlling flu fever. The mega dosing caused bleeding in the lungs which is what actually killed them, not the flu itself. I guess popping aspirin like candy isn't a good idea. The side effects can kill you.
 
Has anyone else noticed that all of the ads for the new "Wonder Drugs" recommend getting tested for TB before use?
I thought we (in the U.S.) had eradicated TB years ago?

So, do these drugs cause TB or is it coming in from immigrants, or what is the deal?
And it seems like the list of "side effects" of most of them is probably worse than the ailment they are supposed to "relieve" anyway.
