Fenix E12 LED Flashlight - Fenix flashlights

About 5 years ago I bought a Fenix E12($27.00) flashlight for work. I was working days and didn't want to walk around with big flashlight on my belt. The E12 is roughly the size of a Bic lighter (3.5 X .750 weight 1.2 OZ) so it fit in my pocket but bright enough (130 Lumens) that if I got asked to stay over I could do my rounds with it. It also ran on commonly available AA batteries so it was economic to run. This was the light I used to navigate around substations in the middle of the night.

After 5 years the tail switch on the E12 was staring to fail so I started looking for a replacement. Of the lights I looked at I settled on the Fenix RC05SE (Special Edition only available through REI).

The RC ($59.00) is only a half inch longer than the E12 (4.0 X .75 weighs 1.3 OZ) so it's still about the size of a Bic Lighter and it's still really pocketable.

The improvements are the fact that it's USB rechargeable, it runs on a 14500 battery but can use a AA in an emergency and it's a little more than twice as bright (300 lumens).

I wouldn't call this a " tactical" light. It's not the light I'd carry on a duty belt but it's definitely bright enough for doing my rounds at work. I think the limited lumens are a fair trade for the size.

There are a couple of places in the freight yard that are really dark and it lights them up enough that I positive that I'd be able to see someone trying to hide there.

That sounds like a great deal. I'm looking at the Fenix and REI websites right now. I always like to keep something like this in my kit bag and one in the car.

Best Regards, Les
