I'm sure I did but I'll be danged if I can remember what it was. That's getting on toward 60 years ago.

What I do remember was the smell, and those nasty 2 cent bottles of warmish school milk.

Late 70s I had the Kung Fu lunchbox. Good memories of lunchtime and seeing all the great artwork on all the other kid's boxes. Loved Star Wars, Emergency, Scooby Doo, Goober and the Ghostchasers, Fat Albert, Space 1999, etc. I recently picked up a book with photos of all the old lunchboxes and it is very entertaining!

I had a Rat Patrol lunchbox in 1968-69 timeframe. Later I remember I had one of the plain black round top versions. They were bigger, could get more in it.

My lunchbox was heavy brown kraft paper and said "Kool Karry" or something like that in blue lettering with icicles. The markets used to put half-gallons of ice cream or boxes of frozen vegetables in them. One bag would last me about six weeks.

I had the same one Wheelgunner, in the same time period. Then at some point it was replaced with a Bonanza version.

I had the same one that you describe and my parents even had to provide the sandwiches. Who came up with the idea of a reduced price, government subsidized lunch so little Johnnies brain would work better.

Dont recall which ones I had, but it was a yearly event to get a new lunch box with the glass lined thermos at the same time my mother would take me clothes shopping and put it all on layaway until the new school year started.

The thermos liner always seemed to break and make a major mess since there were no ziplock bags back then. Just the sandwhich baggies that kind of folded over onto themselves.

Once the thermos was caput, that stopped me from having lukewarm soup for lunch, and the lunch box soon became home to hotwheels and toy soldiers. By the time the dreaded clothes shopping came around where I had to get clothes that were too big for me, the metal lunch box was pretty much destroyed from a summer of outdoor fun.

Sometimes the clothes would fit perfectly when we picked them up from layaway, other times it could be some hemming required or worse...highwaters. And occasionaly, the lunch box I had selected was no longer cool...lol

I had a "theme" lunch box when I was in high school. I would call it "Joe Work'n Stiff", you know, the black, rounded top metal lunch box made by Thermos with the vacuum bottle in the lid.

Reckon I was poor and deprived, as we only had brown paper bags. It was less to carry, so I guess I did not mind too much. I'm sure I would have forgotten a lunch box at least every couple of days, so a brown bag was a pretty good idea.
