FFL Responsibilities

For the record, I bought this pistol from a local chain sporting goods store which does not accept firearm returns. As I learned, the new 617-6 was defective in the box. S&W provided the prepaid label which I used to ship them the revolver, under warranty. S&W has shipped repairs directly back to my home, in the past, and offered to do so this time, but FedEx requires my picture ID and signature at the time of return, which is rarely within their estimated time window. I've missed appointments and had to cancel plans waiting for morning deliveries that arrive at 5:30pm, etc.. FedEx will not release a firearm to my wife or other person I've designated. That is why I'm disappointed to know that the inconvenience caused by asking my FFL to receive the shipment will cost me the same bucks as transferring a new purchase.

I think all you can do is take a PTO day and wait. Or pay the money if your free time is worth more to you….. then remember this dilemma when it comes time to buy another new S&W

Just ran into a similar situation when I had to return a rifle to the factory.
UPS and Fedex here dont want to play.
Took it back to the store I bought it from so they could return it for me.
Lesson learned, many stores charge you because they can.
Was told since I did not purchase a 'Fire Arms Protection plan' when I bought the firearm I was responsible for a $20 fee.
This is for a factory warranty repair.
Savage told me I was responsible for all charges to return to factory , a prepaid shipping label is not what they do .:(
Needless to say,not a big fan of Savage or Sportsman Warehouse at the moment.

Unless the postal service has recently changed their policy, a non-FFL can ship a rifle or shotgun via registered mail.
