I'm a very good customer, so my dealer charges me $30 for a transfer, and ships guns for me at his cost through the USPS. Others in the area charge about $40 to ship a handgun, and 25-50 bucks for a transfer.

The closest FFL to me charges $40.00 & actual UPS overnight shipping. He refuses to ship through the post office as UPS delivers & picks up at his shop just about every day.

Sounds like they want you to buy off the shelf what they choose to stock and want you to have . . .

my guy is cheap: $10 for military, police, or CHL's. He will even receive from non FFL's - provided that seller supplies copy of state ID. Only downer is that he is a long way from the house.

When I am shipping, the FFL I use charges me $10.00 to log it and actual USPS (Handgun) or UPS (Long gun) charges. When I am receiving he charges me the $10.00 TICS fee on all items received. For logging fees I pay him a flat $100.00 for the first gun he receives for me each year. If I receive 100 weapons in a year it comes to $1.00 each. If I only receive the one in that year it cost me a $100.00 log fee. This works out good for me as he usually recieves 12-15 per year for me. And he will accept a shipment from a non FFL if they provide a copy of their DL or other gov. issued ID.

$35 shipping USPS Priority and $35 transfer fee.

Although the local FFL is dragging his feet logging in my HG.

Good luck.

My dealer charges ~15 bucks for shipping, he goes thru USPS. Usually %0 for transfer if I'm buying something else such as ammo or a holster. If not, then maybe $20 for the transfer. I've done 4 transfers at once, $20.

Every dealer in town is a flat $25.00 to receive or transfer out. The one I use mainly charges exact cost USPS to ship out handguns, I don't ship long guns out through an FFl. Both the guys I use will receive from a non FFL, the bummer is they won't cut me any slack on multiple buys, i.e. if I buy 3 guns at once, all from the same dealer, shipped in the same box, it's $25.00 each to receive them, $75.00 total. So, tying to combine shipping doesn't do much for me.....LOL

My dealer charges $25 for incoming transfers, but no fee for outgoing, I just pay the price of shipping.

My dad wanted to sell one of his guns, so I listed it for him on gunbroker. Just in case the buyers FFL needed it shipped from a dealer he called the closest privately owned sporting goods store for a transfer price. He was quoted $100....yes you read that right. They could have just said they don't ship guns. I doubt anyone has ever agreed to that price. This is Michigan we are talking about, not CA.

MY dealer doesn't charge a transfer either, just shipping....of course I sent quite a bit of business his way as well!

I generally don't blame them for getting what they can, but it is getting steep here. It's one thing if I drop off a long gun with no box - I expect to pay a little more. But the last handgun I sold was packed ready to be sealed and sent, and it was $74.00.

Since then I've found a great guy not too far who still works out of his house (another rarity hereabouts) and he is half that or less.

In my case, the fellow I've used for the last year or so has a pawn shop. Is the only time your dealer sees you is when you come in to take a shipment or send one out ?

I try to stop by occasionally and make a purchase every now and then of other things that he has in stock, from DVD's to a used weedwhacker. And I've saved him money by offering advice and such on guns he is considering taking in but doesn't know a lot about. If you're more of a help and a regular customer, a lot of folks will tend to look at you as "not just another FFL nuisance".

Same thing - do you use the dealer for transfers and buy your ammo, etc. from discount stores ? Everybody tries to save a buck, but a little more spent in the right place can reap major dividends down the road.

Just my 2 cents . . . YMMV

I charge $15 for a transfer and exact shipping. The $15 is based on the fact that I'm a gunsmith and make at least $30 an hour. Receipt of logging in and preparing/shipping takes approx. 30 minutes, hence $15 charge. Seems fair to me and my customers say I'm cheap compared to others.
