Phase one is almost complete. The "BEFORE" pic shows the pistol as I received it. It was a plain gray M65, not one bell or whistle to be found. I felt it was a good buy at just a smidge below $500.
BEFORE:
Wolff Springs were put into the pistol. I also cleaned, and polished the internals for smooth triggering. A decent set of grips was added. A new style thumb latch was added.
I bought some 800 grit wet/dry and some 1000 grit wet/dry, and scrubbed with the paper wrapped around a Pink Pearl eraser for about 3 hours. The eraser gave me a firm foundation, but avoided overdoing it in places. following that, I used Mother's brand metal polish, and a Dremel tool with a felt attachment. Actually, I went through a few of them, but the result was worth it.
AFTER (Phase one pretty much complete):
The cylinder is off for the full moon clip mods by TK Custom, and should be back on the pistol in less than a week. Once it returns, it will get the same buff treatment as the rest of the pistol. I'm considering leaving the flutes matte. I dunno why, but it sounds cool to have the contrast in places. As the pistol sits now, inside the trigger guard and the front of the muzzle is matte, for contrast. From beside the hammer forward to the muzzle is also left matte to minimize glare while sighting.
I'm shopping for a Ladysmith shape 3 inch barrel. Once that gets here, I'll start phase two.
Phase two will be to send that barrel out for a dovetail cut, for a Tritium front sight, of the same height as the factory sight. That barrel will obviously get the same buff as the rest of the pistol. At some point, I'll change out the barrels. Until then, to help my sad vision find the front sight, I added a few drops of Blaze Orange Testors paint. I think I'll be able to find such a barrel this month, and will send it out as soon as the bank account says I can. My wife is kind enough to help me translate what the bank account says, and right now, it seems to be saying to shoot the pistol for a while with the old barrel on it.
I wish I could get a decent picture. The skill to do so, illudes me. These two poor pics were the result of about 20 attempts. The best I could come up with was to use ambient light, and zoom from a slight distance. But they are good enough to give the idea of how well the buffing went.
