Fiber optic front sight?

I don;t remember the brand that I have. It uses the U shaped fiber optic inserts and comes with red and green.
Works fine on a bright day but is kinda marginal in my opinion.
Update: I have the HiViz version. I have them installed correctly so I see a very small dot. The problem is that the side ears on my sight block much light from hitting the light pipe so the tiny dot is pretty dim. I paid about $24 if I remember correctly.

I have a Slightlink brnd FO front sight on my AR-15. I bought it from Brownell's. Works great and is a real help to my old eyes. They are a little pricy at $49.00, but it is worth it to me.
I put another one on my birthday list, so I should have one for my 15-22 this month.
I think I have been a good boy - well kinda good anyway.

Yes, it is installed wrong. And yes, painting the front post is just as effective and is so much cheaper.

I restfully disagree. I have yet to find a paint that is as good as a fiber optic sight. Looking through my iron sights at the FO front is much like looking through a red dot scope to me. You don't see a painted post, you see a glowing red (or other color) dot.

My problem with FO sights, and I have used them primarily on pistols, is their visibility varies greatly with the quantity of light and the direction, and offer nothing at night.

That's why you have a bright white light source on your rifles for low/no light shooting 
The way I see it is fiber offers very little drawbacks but one or two advantages. That being said I don't use it on any of my guns.

Can you get a picture of your front sight. I would love to have a FO sight that is bright.
Last fall I was outside shooting my friends Rossi Circuit Judge (I think that is the name...it's the .410/.45LC, five shot relvover mechanism rifle) It has a great FO sight.
The HiViz AR front sight post is nothing like that. It resembles the Nightvision setting on my Aimpoint CompM2 (and I don't have NV goggles....
)

I think the Major was also talking about the sight in the first link being backwards/sideways mounted wrong. I was wonering why anyone would want a "Horseshoe" front sight ???

This what the sightlink FO looks like from the back. I can't get a photo of my gun right now, but if you look it up on the Brownell's site you can see what the sight looks like. It is a straight FO bar - no horse shoe.

The horse shoe should run front to back and only leave a small aperture for you to see like the big dot/small dot pictures above. The horse shoe is simply because it allows more light to fall into the fiber optic to allow it to exit into your view. It should not run sideways like that. That is one of the drawbacks of a FO sight, you can only adjust the sight with 180 degree turns. It does not work across your view like that.

That is the bad part about the dots. Now that you mention it. My old eyes still work good enough (after implants),to see those dots through the rear sight easy enough,but adjusting by one complete turn to keep one large/small dot... not going to work for me. I like those quarter turns for adjustment and distance.
My eyes are still go to go at 300 plus yards with iron.

The Sightlink sight FO sight bar can be turned seperately from the sight A sight tool is included to do this.body.

I'm thinking too many movable parts out there. I shoot way too much to worry about the "horse shoe" getting loose or falling off when I'd need it most. I'll stick to simple.

If its too dark to see the sights then maybe it is too dark to see what you are shooting at, just a thought.
