I’m looking for a field holster for a 5906. It’s just too sweet of a shooter to not take while I watch my 11 year old son fish more successfully than I ever could. However, I am having a difficult time finding a holster that will work. I was going to order some kydex from KT-Mech, but they use a square trigger guard mold, mine is rounded, and I don’t think the pistol will seat and retain correctly. I could get the heat gun out but I’d rather not.

I’ve also looked at some leather makers, not sure I want to wait 15 weeks for delivery. 1791 Gunleather seems decent and I might give them a try, however belt mounted probably won’t work bc backpack waist belt is in the way.

This brings me to tanker style holsters, which could probably work and I might give an M7 style a try. I’ve also come very close to buying a SERPA for it off eBay. I had to use that design for a while before my PoE saw the SLS/ALS light. I don’t hate the SERPA, but I don’t love it either. Blackhawk does have kitchen sink style mounting options for those holsters so that’s a plus.

I did happen across a few Safariland 6378s for a 5946 on eBay. That would be a decent option, but I can’t figure out if the flippy switch on the 5906 will get in the way of the ALS mechanism.

My last option is to stuff this thing into a fanny pack. I guess fannys are sort of back in style. Might be cool, my son might disown me, hard to tell, might have to roll the dice.

Can anyone answer the 6378 question? Does anyone have a suggestion for a kydex maker that accommodates round trigger guards? Thanks a million.

Every one of my favorite holsters has ... Bianchi stamped on it .
I like leather . The last one was for a Ruger Blackhawk , Bianchi Lawman , tan leather $75.00 ... very pleased ... fit , finish and craftsmanship worth every penny and no waiting ... just order .
With infation they are now probably $10-$15 more ... but they are still worth every penny .
Bianchi still makes good holsters ... check them oit .

I would look into a Black Hawk Serpa holster if you are not worried about concealing it. They secure it in case you fall in the water.

Holster for 59 series

Like gwpercle says, I like leather...all of My full size 39xx 59xx's 40xx's 45xx's fit in a Don Hume and I have one also from a Turkish Holster maker, Pusat. The holster pictured with a SW4044 and SW4046 with a mikes hand grip. Check LGS store bins, I have a bunch of holsters that I found in the bins...super cheap!

Big fan of Rob at Simply Rugged. Have a bunch of his holsters for various guns. And like above if its steel it goes in leather.

Safariland has pretty much gone totally tactical. Many of the other holster makers are backed up into 3rd quarter next year. 1791 wasn't taking orders when I checked a couple of weeks ago.

The Bianchi X-15 is a vertical shoulder holster. I like my Model 411 in it. I think the 5906 is of similar frame size. What I really don't like is slinging a rifle over a pistol which is also on the right side. Clunk. Scratch. I have tried carrying the rifle barrel downwards on the left side. That is OK I guess.

If you have never used this type of holster, you may not like it. You may hate it at first, but once you get the hang of it you will strap it on and forget it. Part of the weight sits on the belt snap so there is a weight distribution between the shoulder and the belt if you adjust it right. When you are in the field the best thing is that the gun is out of the way of whatever you are doing, such as drawing your Bowie knife or hatchet.

Keep us informed OK?

I didn’t order from them, but their website seemed ready, willing, and able to take money. I ended up ordering an IWB from Yhe Holster Store. Never used them before. The design looks good, just have to see how well it’s put together.

Good to know, may have been illness or something.

OOPS! MY bad, it was Davis Leather that wasn't taking order at the moment. Milt Sparks is backed up too.
