Somerimes, not always, the slide doesn't want to come off when field stripping the gun. I believe it's due to the recoil spring moving down out if the slot in the barrel.

Has anyone else experienced this? Know of a way to avoid it?

My first guess is not the recoil spring and guide moving out of its slot. Instead, I would check to see if the take-down lever has not turned just slightly from the take-down position so as to interfere with forward movement of the slide. Just a thought.

How are you taking it off? Do you push the magazine disconnect lever down or are you pulling the trigger to fire it? If the pistol is cocked and the lever is not down it won't slide off. (mine doesn't have a mag disconnect but the shortened lever is still there for takedown without pulling the trigger. If I forget to pull the trigger (or push the lever down) it won't come off.

It's not the take down lever. That was the first thing I checked.

I normally use the sear disconnect lever, but this happens while using the lever or pulling the trigger. Yes, I'm aware that the slide won't come off while cocked.
