When field striping the gun is it bad like long term noticeably bad for the gun to be broken down by pulling the trigger instead of dropping the sear piece within the frame?
I would say no. Unless you forget to clear the gun first. I am not kidding
The purpose of both methods is to drop the sear so the slide will release. Both methods accomplish the same thing.
Next time you have your M&P field stripped, check what happens when you engage and release the sear release lever.
Using the sear release lever is a safety measure that makes you check the chamber for a loaded round, and with so many new gun owners, it's a very good thing.
No, it's no different. The sear lever doesn't actually force you to check the chamber any more than turning the take down lever does. Though, when handling a firearm, it SHOULD be common sense to visually check regardless. It DOES however, prevent a negligent discharge in the event that you DON'T see the round that somehow got missed by the extractor when pulling the slide back.
ok cool thanks yall now i usually use my pinky finger nail when dropping it manually but it just seems so much easier to pull that trigger plus my glock buddies make fun because it takes so long to strip but then i just laugh and say its Smith and Wesson baby
