Field Stripping the Shield Without Pulling Trigger

I'll have to go back and look again tonight. Didn't see anything that obvious, but apparently also missed the very specific photo on page 1. 😕

I have trained myself to stick my finger in the chamber with slide locked back , then drop the mag if it's in the gun . I use a polymer pic to push the sear lever forward then push down take down lever , pull back on the slide to unlock and off the slide comes . You don't have to force the sear lever just make sure it's all the way down a gentle push .

The Gun Store Whare i Bought My .45 mp FS Told Me I Would Cause Damnage To My Gun If I Didnt Use The Yellow Lever Any One Else Hear this

I bought two 9mm Shields, one for me and my wife... The first time I took mine apart, I just pulled the trigger and did not use the sear disconnect lever.. Put it back together and the pistol would not cock the hammer. Called S&W and they said send it back.. I did and got it back about two weeks later, with a letter saying that they had replaced part of the trigger assembly and told me, in the future, use the sear disconnect lever.. I now have a Shield .45 and I use the sear disconnect lever every time I dis-assemble my Shields.. Using the "pull the trigger" method works, but you can damage your Shield. It is not if, it is just when.. S&W put that lever there for a reason....
Now let me get my flame suit on before the nasty comments start...

Never heard that pulling the trigger instead of using the lever could cause damage. I've done it a hundred times and have not had an issue. I don't have a problem using the lever, but pulling the trigger to breakdown is a force of habit.

Technically all the trigger does is to release the sear so not sure how it would cause damage ?

I try to use it.....

I try to use it but the paint's gone, my eyes are bad and just plain can't see where the lever is recessed in. I just have to pick at it with something sharp and 'dig' it out of it's hiding hole.

It's nice to know I don't HAVE to use it if I don't have a tool handy.
