Redoing the original 1986 goncalo alves combat grips on my 629-1. Soaked in acetone to remove old finish. Soaked in hydrogen peroxide to remove everything else. Sanded with 400 and 800 paper. One rubbing of light oak stain to add a little color. Very happy with results so far. I want a glossy, hard finish, like what they had on them before 37 years of service. Which one would be best, gloss polyurethane or Casey Tru-oil?
