Finally a bit of luck (SSV)

After losing out on quite a few auctions for 3rd Gen Smiths lately I had started to think that I just wasn't meant to expand my collection. Next thing you know I'm scoring a 5903 SSV with the original box and paperwork. I paid more than the original sticker price of $299, but at just over $500 shipped and transferred I think I did pretty good. These are fairly rare, I didn't think I'd ever own one.

Well the sticker on the box says $299 but it also says used. The SSV certainly cost far more than $299 when it was new, you did very well.

Three years ago we discussed these guns and folks came up with values two or three times that "sticker" price:

I discussed my own SSV safe queen at the time and my SSV's box is prettier than that one!

I expected to sell it someday for 1000 dollars. Someone once offered me that much so I am surprised at the current value.

I actually bid on both, but after seeing this one with the box, decided I'd rather take a chance and try to get it - vs the other. Probably should have bought both at the price they sold for, but I'm not that greedy

I won my bid on my SSV about a year ago , it pretty much replaced my 3913 for most carry situations. I really wish it wasn't so valuable and sought after, I would hate to see it locked up in a evidence room if I ever had to use it. Packing it around Florida it past week in a Cleavland Kydex IWB holster. Will probably sell my 4566 to buy another one as a spare.

I know, it took me 2 years of bidding to find one in my price range, sub $500

It seems like they come in waves. I won 2 the same week back in July-August on the big auction site and there were 1-2 others that popped up for auction during that time period. IIRC, another member here won one around the same time. And then there weren't any at all showing up for a while.

I looked back found I won mine on GB at about the second week in July. Seemed a lot longer than that ago though. And as you said , a couple more popped up on there later as well. Worse comes to worse and I can't find another I'll buy a 910/915 and slap my 3913 slide on it and be in business .
