A 60-10 has eluded me for a while now. A few years ago right as I was really starting to get into S&W revolvers I was hitting every gun store and gun show looking for stuff that caught my eye. At the time I wasn't familiar with every model and dash variation. I started out on 686s so I knew a little about those and nothing else.

I'm at a local gun show and a guy has a 657-4 six inch and 60-10. Both looked barely fired. I think he had a $650 price tag on the chief's special. Now I never heard of a 60-10 but I remember thinking it looked like a mini 686. Very cool, I left the show, went home and did a little reading about it. Come to find out it's not a very common gun and they are starting to fetch some big prices. Shoot, I should have bought it. As the weeks went on I kept thinking about that gun. Soon enough another show was coming up, different show, different area. I get there and at the end of the first isle is the same seller of the 60-10. Some guy is filling out the paperwork on it. Apparently the seller came down on the price and it was sold for $550. I was sick. I needed a 60-10 from that point on.

As time goes on and I go to more stores and more shows I started to realize that if you want something you better buy it as soon as possible. I can't tell you how many times I've been looking a gun over and someone is standing over my shoulder waiting for me to put it down. I've also been the guy looking over your shoulder watching nice stuff get sold for low prices because I was a few minutes late. I can't think of a worse feeling.

So fast forward a few years later and I'm at a show yesterday. I haven't seen one 60-10 since that first one and I've given up the hunt. Colt came out with the new king cobra so I bought one of those to fill up the hole the 60-10 has left me with. I have no gun cash, I have more than I could ever need as far as revolvers go, just browsing around looking for out of production bullets.

Go to a large display of S&W revolvers and there it is. A 60-10 barely fired with the box and a $600 price tag. The best part about it, I know this dealer takes a card. No sooner am I behind the counter a guy watching me asks to see the gun. He said he has been looking for one of those for years. Me too buddy, me too.

This will be my 5th model 60. I have a 60-3, 60-7, 60-7 LS and 60-9. Now if I can find a 60-4 I'll be pretty dang happy. :D

When I first started my collection, and before I knew anything about internal locks, my first J frame was a 60-14. It was an awesome little revolver that checked almost all the boxes. So much so in fact, that my wife commendeered it. Much to her dismay, I got rid of it when I was getting rid of everything post lock. It took around five years of searching to replace it with a 60-10, which, you guessed it, my wife commendeered.

I'm not sure how rare they are, but I can personally attest to how people aren't interested in letting theirs go.

I had a thread on here not long ago about one of these . A local guy had a M41 I wanted , and then he said " I also have a M60-10 LNIB ." I think everyone here said buy it . Next thing I get a pm from colt_saa asking about it . I owed him so we worked out a deal . It is I think one , if not the , best M60 made . If I ever find another , I'm keeping it .

There seems to be quite a few of us who own this mini 686 who at one time foolishly sold one, regretted it and then spent some time replacing it.
I bought my first one on a trip to purchase a pristine 19-3. The seller had a 60-10 sitting out at the same time. The 19 was soon forgotten and the -10 came home.
Then as a favor, I sold it to my brother thinking I would just go get another. 3+ years later I came across another one that was an upgrade to my original.
The one I have now is in it's permanent home. It is one of my favorites.

Now I can't for the life of me understand how gun buying works. The same anomaly that makes two Model 29s show up at the LGS in the same week just made two 60-10s show up at 2 consecutive gun shows. The last show was in June and now the fall season has returned with a show this weekend.

So what do you think I see at the local gun show on Sunday? Another 60-10! I'm such a sucker for having different variations of the same gun too. This new one up front has a forged trigger while the first one I bought has a MIM trigger. Somehow it lasted all weekend at $575 without a buyer. I couldn't buy it yesterday but today I met up with the seller and took it home. There's approx. a 2 year time span between the 2 guns.
