After searching shows and shops for the past 35+ years, I’ve found a cherry Winchester pre 64 M70 Featherweight in .358 Win.
I’ll pick it up tomorrow. Feels like Christmas Eve.

Nice pick up. Good to see patience paying off. Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by "my pet round"?

It’s my favorite round, don’t know why; perhaps because it’s not mainstream. It’s intrigued since I first discovered it back in the mid 80s. For me, it just has has a certain je ne sais quios. It definitely punches above its weight class. I was also looking for a Savage 99 in 358 for almost as long. Found one a few years ago at a show in Washington. It’s the later brush gun, but still has the brass rotary magazine with counter and it was unfired. Bought it from the original owner.

CH4, I think the jig is up. Your secret is out. I’ve notice a few custom gun builders offering 358 win in AR platforms. Does it kick much more than a 308? If memory serves me right that’s the cartridge it’s based on

Yes, it’s simply a 308 necked up to 358. Funny because I don’t have any interest in the 308. I only shoot 225 grain bullets and don’t think recoil is any different than an 06.

Nice you found a perfect example, and she is beautiful. I've never shot a .358, but have had a nice .308 bolt gun and still have a M1A and like the .308 feel. I might be able to handle the heavier recoil a bit, but would need a hefty pad on the butt. I recently took my M44 carbine out for a go (7.62x54R) and had a baseball sized bruise for a week from the steel buttplate from 15 rounds.

Years ago, my (now ex) brother-in-law had a Ruger Model 1 with the full length fore-end, chambered in .458WM. I drooled over that rifle and have always wanted one ever since. I have no idea what I'd do with one today, it would probably kill me with the recoil if I shot it, but still would be nice to hang over a doorway to look at.
