Have you ever had a "How the heck did THAT happen ?" question about someone that bugged you for a longgggggg time ? ..... "Bobby" and I were elementary school classmates for 5 years. We got in a number of playground "dust-ups" back then which made us a bit more memorable to each other. We went to different junior high schools and then to the same (VERY LARGE) high school. When "Bobby" appeared again he was a year behind me (Huh ?!). In my senior year he was TWO years behind me ( I found out later). I didn't really realize this until after graduating and starting to go to reunions. What the heck happened with "Bobby" ? For years now, I knew he was a very smart and accomplished graphic design artist from his Facebook page. My "bucket list" curiosity finally overcame my hesitancy to ask him a potentially embarrassing question. Knowing him, I thought he might have been in "reform school" (Laugh!). He explained he had to repeat 9th grade because he was cutting school and "raising hell". Two years later he dropped out of school completely for a year ( I didn't notice that). He then realized it was a mistake and went back and graduated. He told me it was a case of a dumb kid needing to learn his lessons and grow up. Finally .... FINALLY ...... after almost 60 years I know what happened --- PHEW !

Of course I know better than to ask "Elaine" why she was absent for her junior year and then came back to school a year behind. I think I have THAT one figured out. :)

Knew a guy back in CT I went to HS with who stayed back twice. He was going to drop out at 16, but stayed for one more year to play football. He was a big dude, and two years older then most of the kids playing. He had a fun (but failed) last year.

My senior year there was a guy (Edgar) in my speech class. He was 21 years old. He was ripped with a permanent 5 o'clock shadow. He had dropped out after his junior year and later got drafted. After his hitch, instead of getting his GED, the school board allowed him to finish his senior year and graduate. He was funny, very amiable, soft spoken but held no truck with bullies.

The last anyone heard was that he went to Alaska to work on the pipeline and ended up homesteading.

I had a guy at my school that did a tour in Vietnam, and came back to graduate.

Was playing volleyball in gym one day, he was on the other side of the net. In a flash he ducked under the net and knocked the guy out beside me. Asked him what was up and he said he'd looked at him wrong. I avoided eye contact with him most of the time after that.
