Finally got a 65

Hello everyone three weeks ago I bought a 65-5 and I finally pick it up today, anxious to get out and put it though it's paces, but the weather isn't cooperating. If someone can please give me a date of manufacture I would be appreciated the serial number is BSA0412. It came with a beat up pair of uncle Mike's but I had a pair of eagle secret service stocks laying around so boom they are staying on. Thanks again and here are a couple of pictures

Great little gun my 65-1, mine was my backpacking gun for years, now it is my get-back-home gun in my GBH bag in my car. Love it.

Good for you! I've always wanted a 3" 65 like yours.

They are a very underrated revolver. I carried the 4" version for several years as a duty revolver on the PD. It was accurate and reliable on both the one way and the two ranges.

In the SCSW book, the BSA prefix is listed as shipping in 1994. However, there is no way of knowing if your gun shipped in that year. One way you can try to find out is to call S&W and ask. I had pretty good luck doing that with two guns made in the 80's and early 90's.

You will love it at the range.

My 3" K .357 is a 13-2. I carry it IWB under a jacket in cold weather.

Have M65's in 3" and 4".
The 3" is a well-nigh perfect carry revolver.
The 4" is my woods-carry and range gun.
While I have a good number of .38/.357 K frames, that particular 4" shoots like it thinks it's a tuned match revolver with most everything.
Very unique for a stock block fixed sight working gun.

Congratulations on your 65-5. I'm a big K frame fan, as well as, a Model 65 fan. I have a 65-5 like yours and a 65-2, both with the 3" barrel. Once you get it out to the range you will love it even more!

Well darn! I could only find a picture of my 65-2. I'll have to take another picture of the 65-5 when we get home to Texas.

Vest matched my holster as did my belt and Tony Lama's

Interesting variety of grips. I have the original smooth rosewood grips on my 65-5 3", but I have been thinking about switching to something larger. Comparing the 65 to my 66 4" with wood targets at the range, the 65-5 grips seem like a handicap, not an asset (large hands, fat fingers...)

I picked up my Model 65-8 in 2019. Had rubber grips but I put some magnas on it.

Before S&W made a 3 inch 65, a friend of mine had a 4 inch turned into a customs 3 1/4 inch match crowned barrel, round butt, red ramp insert, Model 66 target hammer and trigger, and one awesome action job. I traded a Ruger Speed Six for it in 1981. It's still one of my most favorite revolvers

65-5 3" LS RB-GB. S&W introduced this version in 1992 (mine was made in 1994). GB stood for Glass-Bead finish, also called frosted. The grips are smooth laminated Rosewood (not my favorite feature). List price in 1992 was $434, about $50 more than the standard version. Adjusted for inflation, about $850 today.

I bought this 65 LS from this site several years ago as an anniversary present for my lovely wife…still trying to decide upon which anniversary I’ll allow her to pry it outta my hands lol. Wearing Ahrends cocos, it’s my favorite and IMO epitomizes a S&W revolver….refined, understated, powerful.

Fine weapons. My wife saw a 65LS writeup in our NRA magazine and said she'd like one. Low and behold 1 month to the day in March 1994, after we were married I was making sales calls in Ft. Morgan, CO and just couldn't help stopping into Shooters Emporium (long closed) the elderly owner had one and we made a deal. Seems like $400 or so. I brought it home. We keep it locked up now w/NRA article, box, bag, papers and all. She's still around and so is the 65. Shoots like a dream...maybe 250 rounds down the pipe.
