I decided to get myself a birthday/anniversary present and I ended up with this little thing. Smith and Wesson Model 66, no-dash! Pinned barrel, recessed cylinder, round butt, and white outlined rear sight. Now I just have to get rid of the awful rubber grips and put some nice looking wood grips on it. Whaddya think?

Very nice! :)

You might wanna' leave the rubbers on if your gonna' shoot those Black Talons!

Congratz.

Nice find. Nothing wrong with those Uncle Mike's finger grooves, either.

Very nice. It's a twin to the one I bought (and still own) back in 1977. Enjoy...

Congrats. Looks pretty clean. Also looks like an earlier example with the gas ring on the cylinder. Well, is this the one that you thought got away or did you happen to find another? Better or worse deal than the one that got away? BTW, I think the rubber grips look pretty good. If you don't want them you can send them to me.

I plan on keeping the rubber grips, but I like to have several different sets of grips for my gun. Makes me think I've got a whole new gun whenever I swap out grips.

This one isn't the one I saw at the pawn shop. I actually bought this one from my father in law. Didn't know he had one until I was telling him my sob story about the one that got away!

The SN on this one is 6KXXXX, so I'm assuming it's 1975ish?

Nice gun! I have a -1 I carry in wintertime. Wintertime started today at my house.....at least if feels like it. Those rubber grips make it much more pleasant to shoot. I have Hogue Bantam's on mine. Doesn't look at good as wood, but handles and has a more positive grip.

Need a few more numbers, but it's either '74 or '75. Pretty cool father in law.

Your going to love it to death! I have put about 20K rounds through mine in the last 25+ years and taught many to shoot with it and it is still as it was when I bought it. Used to shoot tennis balls in the gravel pit and each time you hit the ball it would take off, then line up and shoot it again. Lots of fun and the kids liked it. Kyle

Keep the Uncle Mike's grips. They don't make them any more, and they are very good. Craig Spegle designed them, so don't sneer at them as just being another set of "Goodyears".

Nice 66. I have a -2, w/a 2-1/2" barrel that usually wears UM Combats that I purchased from S&W a few months ago. Like Texas Star said, They don't make them anymore!

Thanks Cirrus, I was feeling pretty good about getting a 66-5 yesterday until I saw yours, I do have the same grips though Beautiful gun and awesome pics!

Thanks! I think the 2.5" 66 is one the best looking revolvers made. I originally started my search not caring about the dash/no-dash. But I got caught up thinking that I just had to have one, and when I get on a kick like that, the only way to get rid of the itch is to scratch it. Sorry if my pictures gave you the itch too. My recommendation, scratch away!
