I was posting on here back in December and early January when I was very aggressively pursuing a Shield. They were like unicorns obviously and I never did get one, and settled for a .40c (9mms were out everywhere too). Anyway, I never warmed up to the .40 and spent a lot of time with my friends 9mm glock, so I wound up selling and moving to the Glock 26 (and eventually the G17, an SP101 etc).

Lessons learned were dont settle, its much better to wait for what you want, and also you're always going to regret selling/trading a gun no matter what role it played for you as I miss them all.

Fast forward to this week; I went through a (very) miniature financial crisis after switching careers and sold off my last two handguns for a little extra padding in the account. Well as luck would have it, my best friend stumbled across a Shield 9 that he didn't necessarily need but couldn't pass up, and he told me it was mine if I wanted it and I could spread it out into a few payments the next couple weeks while this new job lines out, so voila, here I am!

Carried it for the first time yesterday, I love the slim profile but the gun is a touch heavy to me, almost as heavy as my higher capacity Glocks (and .40c). I usually AIWB or pocket carry my guns depending. Right now I'm using a generic pocket holster but plan to get a nice Desantis one, any recommendation on iwb? I haven't shot this one yet, but I have shot the Shield both in 9 and .40 that belonged to some friends and I love the way they shoot. Only other mod I'm considering is night sights of some sort (maybe a big dot), and some light stippling.

Glad to be back here, I was on the verge of becoming a Glock fan boy

Very good! Congrats. I have a Shield on it's way and I should have it by the end of next week. I love my M&P9 compact, but I've been wanting a Shield for a long time. My wife just got a Taurus 709 Slim. It is okay, but as I started to hold it I just fell for the single stack slimness of it, so I got the Shield. I also ordered a Remora Holster, which should be good for now. We don't even have CCW here yet but it is coming. Remora has a %25 off sale too with a free mag holder.

I have the Shield 40, and love it. Yes it is not a featherweight, but is still a few ounces lighter than the 40C/Glock, and even lighter if the 40C/Glock have a full mag (higher capacity). The Shield is just slightly smaller than the 40C, flat mag to flat mag, and somewhat thinner. I have no issue with the weight, only 3 ounces heavier than my Ruger LC9. The Shield is so much better than a LC9. The little extra weight will also reduce felt recoil.

You know how it fires, accurately and soft recoiling. So go out and shoot and enjoy it.

That's a good friend that you have. Congrats on the acquisition. I have also been in the market for a 9mm Shield and I just bought them today.

Thanks guys! And Kodiak, for sure he's a hell of a friend.

Its crazy how attached I already am to this gun. Usually I have to shoot or carry one for a bit, I guess the fact that I have trigger time on other Shields, and the fact that I was obsessively hunting for one at one point, kind of reinforces my love for it. And having an M&P at one point makes the gun feel very natural in hand. I was talking to my buddy today and was shocked to realize this is the first carry gun I've owned with a safety. I'm not an anti-safety guy like some people are, but I'm not sure if I'll use it.

I'll definitely check in to that Remora sale! Thanks for the heads up!

The past couple weeks while I was (hand)gun-less, I carried my wifes Lasermax LCP, which is probably partially why I'm having to readjust to the weight. The other problem is, the gun that carried the best for me and that I miss the most was my LCR, it was just such a sweet gun to carry and even shoot for a DAO snub. Alas, I passed it on to my sister after her home was broken into. I do plan to own another one day. Carry wise I kind of compare everything to that, which isn't fair given that carry guns are all about compromise.

I have a Kydex IWB and it is small and comfortable. Easy to hide with just a tshirt
