So I have Finally managed to get my build completed and set how I was wanting.

Decided to try out the new Shroud at the range and see how if at all it impacted my shooting.

I fired 300 rounds of Eley Club. Not an expensive round but by no means the cheapest.

I will try some of the AR Tactical and the mini mags and other CCI when I get the chance, I have tried and used Winchester and Remmington Subs and other brands such as American Eagle bulk which all run pretty well.

I may even treat the rifle to some of that super expensive Lapua though I think only a box or two at those prices....

Only draw back for me was the thin oil like film that covers the whole of the Eley round, made the mag filling a slippery process but hey ho, all part of the fun.

The ammo itself functioned flawlessly in the rifle, not a single FFE, FTF or misfeed and hold open device functioned perfectly with every mag emptied.

Had some interest from several "greys" who has seen the rifle previously but who mentioned that it "sounded" different. No idea myself as I was "eared up".

Some nice comments on the set up and look that I have achieved and 1 guy was very keen to "have a mag" when offered.

He had seen some of the inferior AR15 type 22 platforms at other ranges but had never seen the Smith, so he was keen to try it and after 25rds he said he loved it.

Will see if he rocks up in the near future with a shiny new one :D

have put up a shot of the shooting table/firing point as this time I tried supporting/resting my forearm against my go-bag, which is not something I would normally do but thought I would try it instead of my normal off hand shooting.

Target is of 3 X 25rd in various groups fired not in any particular hurry but not trying to take forever. Just a nice steady rhythm of 1 round every couple of seconds or so (not precise as wasn't timing myself just having some fun).
shot at 50mts with a little side wind (again no measured as only time I have ever bothered with wind speed was as I exited an aircraft door at several thousand feet)

I love having the option to swap out the shroud for the flash hider or the Sound Mod, (sorry guys for those of you in the US) :D:D

any how, I like this rifle a bunch, I have spent a bunch so now I just have to go and shoot a bunch :D

Have a look and hopefully enjoy.

Rob

Rob :D looking real good, and what a journey to find all the

add ons, not like the Yanks that can just pop down to their

corner shop to buy parts:)

your one part missing though:eek:

keith

Nice, so what keith stated did it take you long to acquire all the add on's or was it a easy thing to do. I guess it's easer for us Yanks:D to get our parts.

Looking good Mark - and nice shooting - looks to me like you've got a bit of room for a Caldwell AR bipod up front though?

Almost there too (and £££££'s later!) - just waiting for the FDE ACOG but have had to put on hold due to getting my new (dream) Merkel .243 - more saving to be done!

Is that shroud from Kinetitech?

I picked up the rifle in Jan this year and been sourcing parts from wherever I could since then. Has been a bit of an Arthurian quest on some things but with the help of some amazing people I have managed to get there. :)

Hi H

I don't think I dare add up the £s in to this. Wife looks in every now and then. But 10 mags 1 ACOG and all the other various arts and detts later. Small fortune I guess. Lol
Yes it is a Ktech. Was looking at one of these for a while and managed to source last week luckily.
Not sure on bipod, I'm not usually a bench shooter and those things are pricey man!!!

Guess I'll have money spare now for my next build?? One for the wife!?!?!? Maybe with an eotech :).

Or one of those 9mm carbines that I have seen. Now they look like some fun. :-)

Mark

Use the Caldwell AR bipod when I go rabbiting (take off my AFG) - like to crawl in the dirt like the good old days! You've got to try the CMC trigger though.....

I have a CZ 455 silhouette for the mud crawling and bunny bashing. Lol. I find that the action slap on the smith with the sound mod fitted spooks the wabbits when there's more than one out. Not such a problem with the CZ.
243. Maybe soon. All depends on what FEO has to say when he comes next. :-) :D

Bravo

Looking real nice...and by those targets shooting real nice as well
So a new trigger and a handguard swap out next?:D
Ive decided that I am going to concentrate Eley sport through my 15-22...its not costing too much to prohibit the monthly mad minute or three. It also cycles very well in mine and it is a surprisingly accurate round...Last season (summer) I averaged a 95.5 out of 100 for my league cards shooting with my Annie (The best shooter in our club uses that lapua stuff and his average was 95.7 so 'sport' can hold its own at 20 yards) and the first groupings in the rapid fire comps for the 15-22 this season were very good, I was pleasantly surprised..so I am going to stick to Eley sport. I am quite limited to supply up here...CCI are like gold dust so its either RWS (no semi-auto available) or Eley or horrible Aguila.
Anyhoo....looking great and you must be so pleased to see your dream finally complete :)

plinker update

Had another great weekend shooting the weekend just gone,

Saturday morning as is for this time of year in the UK, Pheasant shooting with a small group of friends in our local shooting syndicate.

some great driven birds high and fast with a few low level pocket rockets ( partridge) just to test the hand eye co ordination.

So after the morning spent standing at the various pegs across the lovely English countryside I then ventured to the range for an afternoons "plinking" fun with the "smith"

This time I tried out some of the RWS ammo, have to say I was pretty impressed with it, no issues of any kind fed shot functioned and hit pretty much where I pointed it.

not a cheap option but by UK standards not over expensive either at £50 or approx $80 for a brick pack of 500rds.

Once again a great afternoons fun converting money to brass salve.

I guess I will have to see what the local dealer has in stock next week for some more fun.

Maybe at some point I will have to get serious with this lil plinker and have a go at some sort of a comp, tho most the guys I see with .22s here have bolt guns and a couple of under levers ( nice they are too), so im guessing it wont be speed shooting that comes up as an option...:eek:

lets just hope the wife doesn't realise how much ammo i'm shooting through......:D:D:D

otherwise no Christmas present from santa this year...

keep plinking safe

Rob

I shoot my league cards with my 'Annie' but also wanted to give the Smith some action this season. Enjoyed a 'los almitos' match at Mattersey in Sept in which the 15-22 & the BAD lever performed excellently but I also wanted to give the smith more of a regular outing regarding competitions....so I entered into a Rapid fire comp in the CNTSA leagues. So far so good.

So, as an update on range days. Last Saturday, 300 rds RWS target ammo. Shot like a dream no issues on any of the 12 mags fired. Not a single problem with rifle function feeding hold open device nothing.

Range are now showing some interest in possible different types of reactive targets to ramp up the fun so that's a plus.

And to top it all off, firearms officer did his visit this Tuesday and has granted permission to purchase 1x 9mm rifle (gonna do a carbine) and an additional 556 rifle so maybe I will treat myself, can't decide on either AR type lanertac or a bolt rifle such as an Accuracy International. Guess I got to start researching again. :D

By looking at the prices I've seen so far. Minimum spend of about £5000 for the two when kitted with sound mods and appropriate optics. Good thing Christmas is coming. Southern gun co integral suppressed 9mm LR could be coming my way..... Dear o dear the cost is scary:eek:

A Sweet Machine !

Thanks.

Though I have to say, it is mainly down to the help I have had from a couple of exceptional guys helping source parts as I found them online.

Most definitely could not have achieved this look without the help and I think I shall remain forever grateful to the help and support of those guys. :)

hi

Nice bit of kit Rob, yes it's difficult & expensive in the UK trying to source all those lovely go faster bits compared to the US.
I had a few issues with the CCI Tactical, several light strikes. I then tried RWS Semi Auto luved the stuff, no feed problems and very accurate. It also worked really well in my 10/22 trouble is it's not cheap at £89.00 per thousand. For basic fodder I use CCI Standard at £59.00. Cheers

Hey Rob1, that is a very nice set up you have there.
I totally agree with you on how hard it is getting some of the parts here in the UK.
Anyway, well done, a M&P to be proud of.
RRich

Hi again Rob1, could I ask you what make of shroud that is on your M&P?
RRich

Very nice Mark, in fact the whole build is first class.
Gonna have to try out the RWS Semi Auto after reading what others have said.
Also going to keep looking for a fatter shroud for mine, think it looks better on the Smith.
