should mine have the larger knob?

I don't think so....the "under" barrel would have the cut-out for the larger knob if it should have it.

I don't know at what serial # they made the change doing away with the large knob, but I seem to recall it was in the 4000 # range. I'm sure someone will chime in that knows.

Hello George
When the factory resumed civilian gun production in 1946 they used some Pre-War Parts in their Post-War guns and these are called Transition guns due to these parts one in the K-22s being the Larger Mushroom shaped extractor knob. If yours was supposed to have the Larger Mushroom shaped knob it would have the under side of the barrel "milled out to allow the closing of the cylinder to clear this larger profile knob". Your serial number is a little later than other one's I have seen with this Mushroom shaped Knob, so no yours should not have it as they must have used up all the Pre-War Extractor knob ends by the time yours Gun was built...;)

Thanks Drew.

I love seeing that gun...............hope you don't mind, but I've added the pic with the flap holster as my desktop background.

Don

Glad to do it Don! Hope you enjoy! That "Flap Holster" is actually an LLBean "Pistol Pocket" circa 1935 or so... I was lucky to have cut into a vein of them not long ago... I found 4. They are highly collectible in their own right.....

I saw K9xx at a gun show yesterday. Hogues and a target hammer replaced the originals. Frame, barrel, and cylinder matched. Finish was worn with maybe 70% remaining, some light freckling on the side plate, and the cylinder had some firing pin marks between the chambers. Bore and chambers appeared OK but I didn't check with a light. With the original grips and hammer I would have overlooked the other problems and tried to make a deal, but as it was I didn't.

PM Ret. Maybe that early K22 was a candidate for a restoration? Most early parts can be had. Price was right. Thanks, Big Larry:):):):):):)
