So far I like it better than the Kel Tec PF9 I sold to buy it. Luckily I bought the Kel Tec cheap at a gun show and sold it for $50 more than I paid so I only had to add $100 plus tax for the Shield. I liked the XD-S also but the high price the local gun shops were asking turned me off. I had a XD 3" 9mm and it was a great gun and had no issues. This makes my 5th 9mm. I sold the XD and Kel Tec. I chose the 9mm over the .40 since I had plenty of ammo and I only need one size for the range. Used the Remington UMC academy rounds in it and had no issues. Also took out 50 through my Taurus PT111 9mm gen 1. Was the 1st handgun I ever got and after 3k plus rounds it will feed any cheap range ammo and so far every hp I have tried. Also took my favorite 9mm I have a Sig P226 MK-25 Navy Edition. Too big to carry but with a 20 round mag and a X300 light it makes a nice home defense gun but I got it mostly for the range. Had fun shooting all 3. This Shield is now my year round carry gun. I used to use the PF9 with belt clip in the summer and a Sig 1911 Ultra Compact .45 in the winter. Great part was if I wanted to swap they both fit my Galco King Tuk. Sold that holster to get one for the Sheild I just like the way the 2 clip IWB's even out the weight and just more comfortable to me.

Also what is everyone using for Hp carry ammo in their 9mm Shield? I haven't quite decided on one yet so I figured I would see what ammo feeds the best that you guys have tried. The Critical Duty 135 +p I have in my Sig MK-25 seems a little much for this gun. I have some Hydra Shok 147 in my Taurus Millennium Pro but that thing eats anything plus it's a lot heavier. I went though my boxes and found a box of Winchester PDX1's 124 +p's in my stash so I figure I will load it with them for now till I go to the range later this week and I can try a few different HP's I have in it. Love having free passes to the range and enough ammo to go back again.

I carry critical defense in my sheild. Critical duty is designed for full size critical defense is more for short barrels. So far I have had no problems with the defense however I've also never had to use it in a defensive situation.

Right now I have Corbon 115 +p DPX in mine. Have tried HST, Gold Dot in 124 and 147 grain and the 124's are the more accurate, other than the DPX, in my shield.

I've had no problems feeding my Shield with Monarch 124 grain JHP.

I carry and have shot a large amount of Black Talons in my Shield... Winchester 147gr Black Talon to be specific in description. I was pretty fortunate, my old man is a retired LEO, back in the 90s he was given a large amount of them as a payback for doing someone else a favor... so I've probably shot 250 of them through my Shield and they're outstanding.

I like the idea of the 147gr. load (and Black Talon terminal ballistics are legendary) because I have 30 acres of property, and at the present I do not have a "property gun", so my Shield is both my people-protection and predator-protection, 2 and 4 legged varieties. While I would never suggest purposely choosing 9mm as a round for animal defense etc, if you're going to do it (in my case, for example) you'd want the best load you could have. Short of a specific animal-only type 9mm load (and that's almost a joke of a proposition anyway), the 147gr. Black Talon is the best compromise.

I personally carry them 7+1 in the gun, with two 8rd. backups of Federal 124gr HSTs as backups. The Federal HST load is some of the absolute finest ammo available today, in addition to Speer Gold Dot. I tend to carry Federal HSTs or even Hydra-Shok's in my 9mm and Speer Gold Dots in my .40 S&W Glock 23. I would have no problem switching those , tho.

Between Speer Gold Dot and Federal HST/Hydra-Shok (Hydra-Shok has a penetrator installed in the nose of the bullet, HST does not) [and of course my ever-decreasing supply of Black Talons lol) I would have no need to pick any other loads. Obviously I do and have many on hand, but those are just great.

I carry the 135gr standard pressure Critical Duty. Feeds great, nice and accurate.

Standard pressure federal HST 124gr is my preferred choice.

There are plenty of good ones though. Win PDX1 and Ranger T, speer gold dots, the Hornady critical line...

Take your pick, but make it heavier than 115gr.

Yeah 115gr 9mm sucks lemons.

It's like they said, "Let us partake of creating a 9mm round that will suck lemons!" and then, in desperate need of lemon-sucking potential results, they created 115gr 9mm.

And as a result, it sucks lemons.

Mine is stoked with 124gr Gold Dots. They are also very accurate in my Shield 9mm and you can get them almost everywhere.

I use either 124gr +P Gold Dots or 124gr +P Golden Sabers, which ever I can get a hold of easier.
