I've been keeping an eye out for a 99% model 27 with all the trimmings, at a good price, since 1991.

Those I have seen for sale were always $1000 or so (more than I wanted to pay) and I stopped looking very hard the past few years.

Well, yesterday I visited a gun store in a city I was working in and found that 27 I've been waiting for at a price I was happy to pay. Not a spot or a scratch on her metal and the wood is almost as good. It's a 27-2 and dates to 1976.

Not the best pic, but...

I don't know as much as I should about this model and any feedback is welcome.

Nice model 27 looks like five inch barrel ,kinda rare. Real nice box , trays look to be in great shape . its a keeper.

Great find! Is it going to be a regular shooter, or more of a once in a while shooter/mostly presentation piece? I don't think the other guns in my safe would see much action if I got my hands on something like that. Congrats!

I do plan to shoot her. She wont make every trip to the range unless she shoots sweeter than my 686. The 686 is my regular shooter with full power rounds.

I'm jealous. I've been looking for one to call mine for at least
as long. The ones that I can afford only come up just after I've
just spent money on something else.

She's a beauty though, congrats.

Post War guns in their boxes are usually hi-grade as folks kept them IN the box instead of ratteling around in a draw.:(

Your wait was worth it.

Very nice, sir.

Dan

Very nice, congratulations. You'll find it was worth the wait.

I wasn't even aware that S&W was offering presentation-cased 27s in the mid-1970s, but I found references to a couple of others. That is a spectacular find. Congratulations! Patience is not always rewarded, but yours was certainly rewarded in a major way.

Looks 6" to me (or were they still making 6.5 in 76?) 5" had a ramp FS. That looks like a post.
