Amid debate, open carry handgun bill advancing in Texas - San Angelo Standard Times
The bill easily passed in the Senate in mid-March, but it still must clear the House before reaching the governor’s office.
This one was posted yesterday (the 6th)
Local officials brace for loose open carry laws - San Angelo Standard Times
Senate Bill 17, passed by the state Senate in March, would authorize the open carrying of handguns in Texas by anyone with a license, so long as the weapons are kept in shoulder or belt holsters.
A second gun-related measure, Senate Bill 11, removes criminal prohibitions for possessing concealed handguns on the campuses of public or private institutions of higher education by those licensed to carry a concealed handgun.
Should both bills pass, carrying unconcealed handguns on college campuses would be prohibited.
According to these two articles, neither have made it through the State House yet.

Also... One would think that 'Open Carry Texas' ( https://www.youtube.com/user/OpenCarryTexas ) would be allover this had it passed, but no...
So...

Since this fine thread hasnt been updated--ill up date it. Open Carry passed both Senate and House--strictly along party lines. Same thing for Campus carry. There are two or more other gun bills making the rounds but--I dont know what they contain? or even if they have been voted on yet?

Forgot tomention--alsosigned into law--but imnot sure when the law goes in to effect? since the other party wanted somekind of a delay...

Ringo, thanks. I was not aware it had come up for a vote in the house. From the two links in the previous posting, it appears that it has not. I just got a propaganda email from my rep in the house and not one word about it. I suspect the time delay is until the 1st of Jan. 2016 but not sure. That is what was in the final Senate bill.

Keep us posted.

Got some links??? I can't find any feeds about them passing and the official Legislature sites don't confirm.

I want to believe you, but I can't confirm.

Sorry, I do not. I saw the news reported on all three local stations and each one had reported first--that the Senate passed it--and all along party lines--then the next day-they all said it passed in the House--again on party lines. They also said the dems wanted some sort of a hold up on when tghe law was to go into effect. The night they said the House passed it--they said Greg Abbott then signed it into law. I also heard that on someones radio--I dont know what station they listened to?

Anyway--those are the sources I heard about this becoming law. The a few days later--the same thing about campus carry.

Speaking of holsters, back in the day, Cowboy Action Shooting, I had several nice rigs, but sold them. Now for carry, I have 2 belts slides and a Uncle Mike holster #5. Generic.

Nothing fancy, just functional. All I need

It'll be interesting to see if HB910 passes the House vote as easily as SB17 passed the Senate votes.

Since the House hasn't voted on SB17 yet, if HB910 doesn't pass, hopefully they can 'shore up' support for SB17 so that it passes when it gets its chance. :)

Getting support for this bill shouldn't be too hard. You've got four months or did you mean Apr. 14th? OOOOOPPPPs!

I think channel six news :::KRIS:::: here in CC--owes me an apology. Thanks to their story-_I was given incorrect House--passage news. I already contacted the news room manager--and he was supposed to give me a callback on confirmation. However--he still has not done so. Now im going to call again and see if they are going to correct this info?? Maybe next time--I will not be embarassed at posting inaccurate news.

We probably won't know anything until late this afternoon.
