Finish challenged 24-3

The 3" N Frame, is for me, the most aesthecticaly pleasing S&W, bar none.

If I came into possession of this gun, it would be as a shooter and would be left as is and I would shoot the snot out of it.

Second option would be hard chrome -- easy maintenance.

FWIW,

Paul

If it were my decision to make, since it has no original finish, I would send it to any good refinisher with an established reputation (not S&W) for a re-blue. I would never consider any kind of plating or paint job (cerra coat or whatever it's called).

Here is a picture of my all original M24-3...

I will post a pic later if I can figure it out, it looks like it was left in the desert since 1984 ,no combat grip either

I am having trouble understanding what a gun would look like after being left in the desert since 1984.

I have a spare pair of S&W manufactured N frame RB combat grips that I would consider selling at a reasonable price, but only if you do not get it plated.

If it were me, I'd go with Ford's Master Blue instead of the blue finish Smith & Wesson is currently providing. There was a time when a factory re-blue would have my 1st choice on that gun without a 2nd thought but no longer.

They are nifty guns. First of the production 3 inch N frames, first production N frames with round butt frame.

You live in a pretty dry climate where rust isn't much of a factor. A nice blue job would be my first choice, too, and you mentioned 2 of the best places to get it done. from your photos, either of those 2 should be able to clean it up nicely.

If it's a good shooter, I'd probably use it as is! That's quite an unusual patina, of sorts... There are enough good comments above in regard to your options, so I won't add anything else...
Blessings,
Hog

I have one that looks new and not sure it has been fired but the stocks disappeared from the estate of the owner along with the papers and cleaning kit. It is sporting K frame grippers until I see what I need.:)

By George, I do believe that Weatherby has nailed this one.
Pinto!
S&W does a nice pinto refinish.
Last year, I had a finish challenged Model 27 done.
