Fiocchi USA Extrema .45 ACP problems

I posted this on Glock Talk since I was using a Glock 30 when I had the problems. I thought I would check with those on this forum as well.

I bought a case of 230 gr. .45 ACP Fiocchi Extrema XTP after having been very happy with Fiocchi's .38 Special ammo. Unfortunately, I've had some problems in the first 80 rounds. First of all, I had a round that failed to chamber due to the bullet being poorly seated at the factory and a section of the case mouth was ripped off. I did not notice the round was defective when I loaded it into the magazine. From then on, I have checked each round prior to loading. Next I had two rounds with primers that failed to ignite on the first strike. On re-chambering by hand, the rounds fired okay.

The gun is a Glock G30 that has had no issues with any other ammo--lower-priced range ammo or high-end self defense ammo.

By the way, the ammo is quite accurate--as accurate as I can shoot it anyway. I'm just disappointed in it for consistency.

I'm curious to see if anyone else has had issues with this ammo.

I like Fiocchi ammo but I don't like the new Fiocchi Shooting Dynamics ammo that uses a Hornady XTP bullet. I will only buy the older stuff, not the Shooting Dynamics ammo.

A few thoughts...

I tried Fiocchi Extrema in .380. It's very high quality, american made ammo and priced much better than other premium products. In .380 I like the XTP because a deep penetrating hollowpoint is needed, but don't like that bullet in more powerful calibers where most any JHP can penetrate 12"+.

Like your Glock, My Kel-tec didn't like the stuff. It fed poorly. Such is the way of semi-auto pistols. Just use what works and move on.

Fiocchi

I have heard that Fiocchi has switched primers and that some striker fired pistols will have difficulty with them. Supposedly they are fine in other pistols such as 1911's.

I haven't tried the .45, but I recently bought a case of the Extrema 9mm XTP load. It feeds and functions fine, and is as accurate as I am, but the velocity is 200fps slower than advertised.
Other than that, no problems.

Clean your glock striker and slide ,,
Remove ALL oil and grease it does not need it.
My Glock Doc said he has seen guns with so much oil
the striker locked up and would not dent the primer...

I must again note that the issue of the non-igniting primers is only one of two issues that has come up with this ammo. The first being the defective round in which the bullet was loaded at the factory so off-kilter it had ripped a section of the case mouth off. The Glock is not the problem--it works 100% with every other type of ammo I've tried from cheap Blazer to Golden Sabers and Ranger-Ts. I don't over-oil my Glocks and, following every range session, I clean them extremely well.

After experiencing three rounds with two different problems within the first 80 rounds fired, my conclusion is that the Fiocchi Extrema .45 230 grain XTP ammo would be a poor choice for self-defense or hunting--or any other activity in which total reliability is required. I consider it over-priced range ammo only. Too bad because their .38 Special ammo has performed well for me. But I won't be buying any more Fiocchi ammo for my autoloaders.
