If you get it--which you do in TX--it was done for nothing.
If you lived in MD, you would NOT get it, but it would reside in a million-dollar a year facility to "catch criminals" which by the way it has never done.
So I suppose we could say it is done for nothing either way, but some states require it.

NY used to require it, and kept a database, but recently did away with it. Zero crimes solved, millions of $ spent.
