Greetings, I'm new to the forum. I have a few old S&W revolvers but my question is about the model 15-3 that I just bought. The firing pin is loose to the touch. More spacificaly, the tip of the firing pin will rotate up and down about a quarter of an inch on the roll pin, like the hands on a clock.
I have not shot it yet and this is the only gun I have with this type of hammer so I don't have anything to compare it to. Is this normal? If not, what do I need to do? Thanks.

Both of my M15-4's and a M686-1 each have a full 1/8" up and down movement. Funny thing, the 686 fring pin seems to have a lite spring keeping the fring pin rotated in the downward position.

measurment

I just checked it with a rule and the movement is right at an eight inch. I've been told that I tend to exaggerate allot. :)

Some are spring-loaded, some not. Varies with the time of production.
