Hi, I've got a model 60-12, which has the frame mounted firing pin and MIM hammer & trigger with no lock. My question is just out of curiosity, as my revolver is just fine. If a person ever needs to replace the firing pin, what is involved in doing so? It's hard to tell from the schematic that is in the owner's manual, and I don't remove the side plates from my revolvers for no reason, so I haven't taken a look inside. Again, my question is just to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Remove sideplate, remove hammer block, remove hammer, use tweezers/needlenose to remove retaining pin, and remove firing pin and tiny spring (careful!). Piece of cake.

Thanks for the reply, hotrod150. I had read in a previous thread from a poster sometime ago that had commented that they had changed one out in a revolver similar to mine, and that it was not big deal, but didn't expound any more than that. I couldn't see, looking at the left side of the frame, where there was any pin that would be driven out of the frame with a punch etc. to make the change, and you have answered my question very well. Thanks again.

In fact, since that firing pin spring isn't real stout, you have to be careful when turning the gun on it's side with the sideplate removed. I've never had the retaining pin in my 442-2 come all the way out, but I did find it partially backed out a bit once. Probably from when I turned the gun on it's side to shake the hammer out when disassembling.

Once again, thanks a lot for your detailed info. I hope to never have to do it, but it's good to know that it's something the average mechanically inclined gun owner can do himself if necessary.
