Hey All,

Been wanting to pick up a 10mm Semi-Auto after getting a Smith 610 10mm revolver recently here off the forum.

Happened to be in a LGS here in Comniforia, and they mentioned they had some 3rd Gen Smiths that had just came in on consignment.

One of which happened to be a Model 1066 in very nice condition.
No original box/paperwork and only 1 Yellow follower Magazine.

The good news, they wanted $800 for it, which I thought was low, especially given where I live. Never actually seen a 1066 come up for sale here. Although 1006's pop up from time to time.

Any 1006, 1026, 1046, 1076, 1086 owners here have some suggestions with upgrades? I remember seeing a thread someone of someone who makes custom stainless Rods. Do you guys recommend upgrading the factory springs? I found a beautiful pair of Hogue Checkered Rosewood grips I would like to get for her for when she is in the safe. I'm sure I'll prefer the rubber Hogues when I am at the range.

I'll post some Pictures when I bring her home in 10 days. (Ridiculous 10-Day Wait Period Here)

I have the 1066 and a 1076, both in factory condition when I got them although my 1066 had a little abrasion which I addressed by doing a complete refinish and spring update. I used all Wolf springs, polished anything that got friction and the gun functions like smooth glass compared to my stock 1076. KSD is the ONLY slim wood grips for the 3rd, all other add bulk. This is the 1066, but I've put a spurred hammer on it too since this photo. Oh yeah, 800's not bad if the gun is in great condition, it's not if its a beater.

The man who makes the guiderods for S&W is or can be contacted @ [email protected]. $60.00 for a rod.
Like gunhacker, all I do with mine is feed'm ammo.
I did put on some Hogue grips, w/o finger groves.

Favorite load is 10 grs of Blue Dot with a 200 gr fmj, Very accurate

I can definitely vouch for Paul's work. He made me new guide rods for both of my 1006's and they are a work of art. Function is flawless.

Congrats on your excellent find!

I'd definitely suggest you replace all the serviceable springs since you don't know how long they've been in there, maybe since it left the factory. Recoil & firing pin springs, mainspring, & magazine springs. Wolff Springs has them all at various strengths. Start fresh. ;)

On the wooden Hogue grips, my 1006 had a set on it when I bought it at a gun show. When I inspected it, before buying, the slide was unbelieveably hard to get back on because the levers couldn't be fully depressed, like normal. I later found out it was because the drawbar was hitting the wooden grips (when the levers were depressed) because the grips were not properly clearanced when made. With the slide off, just install one grip side & make sure the drawbar does not hit the wood when the levers are depressed.

Your 1066 may already have a one-piece guide rod in it. Later ones did, so you may not need another unless you want a spare. Paul does excellant work on his FLGR replacements. I got two.

Hope you enjoy shooting it once it gets home. :)

Since you like the 10 mm round, I think you did awesome!!! enjoy your find, and see your collection grow soon, even though right now you don't think it will! lol:D

guide rod for 1006-mail box full?

gave you a bad address. Correct address is [email protected]. Sorry about that.
I don't know if the pm went thru. Your mailbox is full. Mine had 20 out of 24. Was not aware of that so I deleted my inbox. The underline "character" has to go before the @ phowell_@
