Went to a gunshow in Columbus Ga. today and scored my first 4 screw N frame. Not to rub anybodies nose in it," cough' Wiregrassguy, cough' cough' Redlevel. Anyway it's a pre 29 with the WO and RR sights, TT and TH with a 4" barrel. And it's nickle plated. Only down side is the SN. on the grips don't match. The up side is I got him to come $100.00 off the asking price because of that. SN. is S 177556. Pics to follow.

It came with diamond magnas on it. I need to come up with some cokes.

You know what they say: "without pictures, it didn't happen." :D

Congrats, buddy! I was wondering if you were going to make the show. I hope to see it soon. By the way, Mrs. Wiregrassguy and I are coming your way this afternoon. If you've got a few minutes to congregate, maybe we could have some show and tell?

Here is some pics. I found some grips in my woodpile that look a little better than the magnas that came on it. Also at the same show I found some grips for a RB K frame. They have no name on them and seem to be made out of some type of plastic. Well made and feel really good in my hand. Pictured on my 19-3.

Nice! Looks really good with both sets of grips.

Hey, you wouldn't happen to have some convex, round top, checkered walnut grips for a K frame without medallions in your woodpile? Looking for some for my 1921 M&P Target.

Ah, then add $500 to the price. Still, a nickel 4" 44 Magnum is pretty rare.

How anyone shoots a 4" 44 Magnum with smooth stocks is beyond me. Gun would be in the dirt if I tried it.

Combat:

I love the early smooth target stocks that you put on that 29 (beautiful grain). My guess is that they were probably on the production line about the same time as the gun.

Congrats and thanks for sharing.

Those plastics are probably the old Rogers grips...IIRC they were bought out by Safariland, who added their gold medallion to the right side when they sold them. Nice!

Thanks for IDing the RB K frame grips as being manufactured by Rogers. Looked them up, now I want a pair made for the SB k frame. For now, I'm happy with the smooth grips on the .44. When I got them they were so dirty they looked to be all one color. Dirt brown. After a good cleaning and some Ren wax they came out like that. If I come across some checkered CBG's at a good price I might put them on it. The smoothies could have been an option so for awhile they will stay. Also, I want to mention the prop rod in the pics is one I won on a forum karma. Thanks again.

the grips do not match the gun because they are not correct for a Pre 29. The gun should be wearing Checkered Target Coke Bottle Stocks. Your smooth targets are very nice :D

too bad the gun has been refinished :(

Grips

Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't think they numbered the proper coke bottle target grips.

That's my understanding also. I've taken the "Coke bottle" grips off of 1956 NT-430s that appeared, by all indications, to have all original parts, when checking for serial numbers on the grip portion of the frame, and none of the grip panels have / had serial numbers marked onto them.

Interestingly, I've noticed the fit of "Cokes" on the .44s made in 1957 and later to not have as precise a fit with the contours of the revolver -- particularly in the area that is close to where the web of the hand would contact the grip / revolver, on the right grip panel.
