Seeing that picture of the 1937 Chevy got me reminiscing about my first car, which I bought from my dad when I was 16. Here's a pic of me at age 19 with that same car. It's a 1950 Chevy fastback, highly modified by me. I couldn't afford to buy other, newer cars, so I repainted it almost every year with a new color. I did all the sanding and taping, and took it down to the local auto body shop and had them spray it for about $35, as I recall. In this pic, it's in 1958 Corvette silver blue, one my all-time favorite hues.

How about the rest of you? Any pics of your first car?

My first car was a used 1970 VW Beetle.

It was wrecked when I was rear-ended by a dump truck at a red light, three months after I got it.

I'll post pics when I get home.

ServiceGun, my first car was a used '70 VW Bug, too! Peacock Blue. Had an gas powered heater in it which made it nice bc it was a cold ride without it. LoL. Didn't last long, though. The brakes would lock up every time I parked, so I would have to tap behind the wheels with a little hammer to make it release again. Pretty irritating. But I sure loved that car. :)

My 1st car was a 1942 studebaker commander. Dad had a 1941 commander and had bought the 42 as a parts car if needed. He didnt need any parts so gave me the car when I was 15. (1956). I might have a picture in a box in the garage.
My sister is about 3 years older than me. I remember once mom teaching sis to drive in my car, I was still 15 and pissed as I had to sit in back. Wendie tried takeing a corner and ran off the road through some saplings with my studebaker. (it didnt hurt the car, it was built like a sherman tank). I dont think the car came to a stop before I could refrain from grabbing her hair and pulling her backward in the rear seat! Mom made me walk home!

No pictures, but my first car was a 1958 T-Bird, white, with a 352 engine.

I got it in 1966.

By the time I got the car I was already licensed for motorcycle in Oklahoma (at age 14) and had gone through several of them.

No pictures, but it was a '72 Super Beetle in 1978. I painted it a royal blue, put black crushed velvet seats in it, and a header on the exhaust. I liked that little car. I had it for a couple of years until the commute to Newark in the winter meant sitting in Parkway traffic with no heat.

Not my first car but close to it. I talked my mom into lending me the money. I was right out of high school at the time. I still have the original order sheet, it was a little less than $3200.00 out the door. A 1969 Dodge Dart 340, 4 speed- it turned a lot of heads and boy that baby could go. I wish I still had it. :)

Fire Engine Red 1963 Willys Overland Wagon. Last year before Jeep went to the Wagoneer style. What she lacked in speed she made up with in funkyness. If that Jeep could talk.....
I still miss her!!!

My first car was a 1950 Chev 2 dr coupe.

I was starting highschool and had to drive 4 miles across the pastures to another ranch to meet the school bus.

I was too young to get a license, but I sure didn't worry about getting caught.

I never did get to drive that car on a public street or road.

I bought the car for $200, the school district paid me $20 a month for gas etc.

While parked at the other ranch, the wife let her car run down a hill and it hit mine.

Her insurance paid me $200 for the damages, and I pounded out the dents myself.

I drove that car for two years and sold it for $200. Best dang car I ever owned.

No pics here either. Mine was a Plymouth Fury, surplus unmarked cruiser, 1972, 400 interceptor engine. Super Shell was 55-58 cents a gallon.

My first car was a 1954 Jaguar XK120 SE. I still have it, and I will keep it until the day I die. It is the car that Clark Gable didn't want. My car is a late 1954; one of the last shipments of 1954 cars to Charles Hornburg, the West Coast importer. Gable owned three 120s. He got first look at the cars in this shipment and chose chasssis number S676035 to be his fourth 120. I guess he didn't like the color of my car; black with red interior, black wire wheels, and red brake drums. Mine is a few numbers away from Gable's car. Hornburg kept my car for himself. Phil Hill, who was with Hornburg at the time, remembered Hornburg driving my car.

After the car passed through several hands, I bought it on September 15, 1968 for $520, and I paid too much. At that time anyone who wanted a 14 year old Jaguar was considered to be either totally insane or a dumb-ass kid. Now, if anyone wants a 55 year old Jaguar they are considered totally, certifiably insane with more money than brains.

I eventually repainted the car light gray with a black interior. My son wants me to repaint the car again to return it to the original black and put in a red interior. We'll see.

I don't have any pictures, but I "married" my first car. Yes, my wife had the car when we got hitched. I was 20 she was 18.

The first car was a powder blue 1955 Chevy four door Bel Air, V8 automatic. That car really wasn't all that good. When we got married in 1961 it had to have a paint job and was rusting under the headlight eyebrows.

Very soon after that, my parents gave us their 1956 Chevy two door, manual trans six. That car lasted until I bought a new...Motor Trend Car of the Year...the one and only...1963 Rambler Station Wagon!
