Anyone happen to know what was the first dash number for the round butt in the S/W model 29 revolver ?

Ok, thanks, must have had both round and square butt revolvers available, as I have a square butt model 29-3 I bought new many years ago.

Thanks, grip frame . I sold a few safe queens, and looking for a nice early 629 or 29 , that might need a set of Goncalo-Alves target grips for a square butt gun. I have a n.o.s. set of these grips that need a gun , lol !

But that is only half the story.

It depends on the version or 29 or 629 also during this time frame and into the 29-6 and 629-4. For example the Classic series with full lug barrels we all round butt.

You will see 29-5 and -6 with Square butt grip frames and mostly with the standard non full lug 4, 6 and 8 3/8 barrel lengths.

I would recommend the 29-5 and 29-6 as well as the 629-3 and -4 as they are pre lock and have the full endurance package.

If you just want a looker/collector a 29-2 with pinned barrel and recessed cylinder.

Often your able to tell the style butt { round or square } just by looking at the gun without removing the grips. I'm after an early one, not really interested in the newer .

I have a 29 that I bought new many years ago, along with a few other N framed guns. Looking for nice shooter that needs a set of nos target grips.
The nos grips had a price I could NOT turn down, just didn't want to pass them up for the price.
