First Frost

Woke up this morning and there was a fine frost over everything outside. Little early I think. Makes me wonder what kind of winter we are going to have.

We had a mild frost 2 weeks ago in the mountains of Northern NY. A heavy frost is due or possibly overdue!

Acorns are falling fast and we have many, that is normally a sign for a nasty winter.

Speaking of temperature extremes...

What if we were in Riverton , WY in January and it was -30 F. If the S&W revolver remained in the vehicle for whatever reason and was needed for some other valid reason...

Might one expect damage or perhaps failure of the firearm? Funny...was just pondering this today. Recip engines hate cold starts...do revolvers?

Has been a warm and dry fall here in central part of Illinois .. over 5 inches behind in rainfall since 1st of August .. Temperatures have been 10 to 20 degrees above normal some days .. We're just now getting back down to normal temps and a bit of rain yesterday also ..

Some trees have dropped leaves with out a color change showing their stress from the dry fall .. grass has just this week turned green again ..

...this month so far we have had 20 inches of snow and a low of 22 degrees...seems a little early for that...our fall colors are mostly on the ground now with that hard freeze and some stiff wind...next week however may be Indian Summer...calling for sunshine and above normal temperatures all week...with Denver nearing eighty on Friday...
