When I purchased my M&P it came with one of the first generation mags. I had some troubles with it. About every third round or so it would catch the edge of the casing when feeding it up the ramp, bend the casing, and made it to where it would not fire. I decided I would go and get a second generation mag and see if that helped. 300 rnds since with no malfunctions. Was wanting to ask. Does anyone know if I send this to S&W will they replace it with a functional mag? Also has anyone else had this issue?

had mine a week and it does the same. sending back to the factory tomorrow. very disappointed with this purchase at the moment.

Don't be. I had a few probs with mine but they will make it right. When you get it back you will be very pleased.

I experienced lots of mag snags with the 1st gen. mag that came with my rifle. S&W CS rep told me to send it in and they would swap it out. The new 2nd gen. mag came back in about 10 days and works perfectly.

While waiting for the new mag. I bought three additional 1st gen. mags which also had issues. I sent them in with the rifle and received four 2nd gen. mags when the re-conditioned rifle was returned.

S&W may have done a poor job of QC when they first marketed this gun and mags but they sure were first class on taking care of the problem.

if you send in your mags ( 1st gen ) wil the only send 1 for 1 ? or more for your troubles?

Got one back for one when I sent the first mag alone. Got an extra one back when I sent the rifle in with the three mags.

I figured the extra mag was the companies way of compensating for the lost time with the rifle, plus the hassle of shipping it.

Gunluvinatty. I couldn't figure it out. I held them side by side and also tore them down but found nothing. But I'm sure there is something or they both would work.

2nd Gen has 25 round or 10 round molded in mag just below 22 LR. Both work just fine in my 15-22. If they actually changed something in the magazine itself, I don't have a clue as to what it might be.

Last week, a local gun store had 1st Generation Mags on sale for $8 each, so we bought four.

We have 2 S&W M&P 15-22 rifles that we have shot countless cartons of 22 LR ammo, from nearly all manufacturers (except Remington), with not a single failure.

When we tested these 1st Generation Mags, we could NOT fire 5 rounds, regardless of ammo manufacturer, without a failure occurring.

Makes you wonder how the 1st generation Mags ever got released without FIRST being tested by S&W Quality Control.

I'd be willing to bet that those piece of junk mags had/has a lot to do with a lot of the OOB problems b/c it was shredding me casings when loading into chamber before being fired.

I have one mag that just says .22LR above S&W logo. Is this mag 1st generation?

This is an 18 month old thread. :)

All my magaznies are "first generation." All have ".22LR" on the right side about an inch above the center of the S&W logo.

None are marked for capacity.

I have two of each, 1st gen. & 2nd gen., no problems so far. Have put almost 1,000 rds. down range and the only malfunctions
were due to the type of ammo being used.
