First Gold Cup

I've been wanting one of these for years, but was too busy buying Smith's, not that there's anything wrong with that . There's just something about a Colt.

The Gold Cups are very nice guns. Just think you could have bought 3 or 4 KelTec's for what you paid for the Colt. Don

I got a series 70 gold cup in the mid to late 70s, Shot the **** out of it. It's still my go to gun when I need some serious shooting.

Congratulations, that's a nice pistol! I bought one just like it a few years ago, and it's one of the guns that always goes with me to the range.

Those stock grips (or, should I say stock 'stocks...') are very comfortable. This being said, I put some nice wood Colt grips on mine, just because I like the look better. I run 200 gr. LSWC reloads through it, and get great accuracy. Never a hiccup with the gun, and a very nice trigger. Gotta love the Colt 1911s!

My Series 70 likes 4.3 gr. 231 behind a 200 gr lead SWC.

Great score! All reports of the latest Colts I'm hearing say they may be the best Colt ever built.
But till I get ahold of one , I still say the quality of the pre-70 Gold Cup National Matches are THE 1911 that all of todays top shelf master builders are shooting for.

A 1965 in it's original box , with test target.

The 1960 gun was like new when I got it , but the box must have gotten damp , so ya see about 1/4" of fine rust mark along the top of the slide.

Are the recoil springs still set up for mid range wadcutters? If you want to shoot ball, do you have to change out the recoil spring?
